B Speed

What do you guys think about speed? Does it factor into your recruiting? I know for me I like guys who have the ability to separate and pick up YAC.

For instance, I have the #8 WR in the country interested in my Ole Miss team but I won't add him to the board because he's only B Speed.

What say ye?

Re: B Speed

Speed speed speed. First thing I look at for WRs, RBs, and QBs. If I was at a bigger school like ole miss I wouldn't go after anybody below A- speed at those positions. My only exception might be if the WR is a giant at 6-6 or above. If I'm coaching a crummy school I would take anything I could get.

Ah yes the speed attribute. I used to pass up 5 stars with B+ speed for 3 stars with A speed. But that was before locomotion. If there are two pretty even skill position players I'll take the faster one.

Re: B Speed

Acceleration is also important. I have found that I would rather have a B+ spd, B+ acc than an A- spd, B acc.

Re: B Speed

Speed at every position.
I routinely move down FSs (who generally have great TAK ratings) to LOLBs and let them stew down the depth chart after a RS year to improve other attributes. By the time they're starters they are beasts and the only thing I feel a little short on occasionally is PMV and maybe even BSH.
SSs can move to my ROLB, and fast OLBs w/ excellent STR and C+ PMV/FMV are moved to DE.
About the only POS I've not prioritized SPD is at DT (running a 4-3), and even then if a D SPD guy isn't 1) high ACC and STR, and 2) B or higher in TAK and PMV, I bypass him.
I think I read on one of these forums (here or Utopia) sometime last year that this is what Jimmy Johnson did when he stepped in at the U. "Downsizing" maybe, is what I think it was called?

The PocketScout program -- which provided a spreadsheet with ##s instead of letter grades -- adds in a column called Mobility which is simply the avg of SPD, AGI and ACC. It's become not only a ## I look at for 'mobile' positions (skill, OG, DE) but also a deciding factor for me when splitting hairs on different recruits. Yep, IMO ACC matters.

This is what I try to do as well but I have a hard time moving safeties to linebacker if they have no block shedding, finesse, or power ratings higher than 65. It is just hard for me. Easier when I am a smaller less prestigious school though.

I do the same thing. 2 years ago in my dynasty I signed 4 4* SS's. Now 2 are my OLB's, the fastest one is my FS, and the other stayed at SS.
