Tonsil Surgery

So, everytime I get bad sore throats, my tonsils become swollen, nearly closing my throat. This has been a reoccuring theme since high school but I never had issues prior to that so they weren't removed. Well, now I average 5-6 sore throats a year which causes me to miss work (atleast a week at a time). I recently had a consultation on getting them removed and the recovery time is horrendous. 2-3 weeks recovery with a sore throat the entire time. I can only drink liquids because hard food could scratch and irritate the tissue. And the best part is after one week recovery, there is a 20% chance my throat could bleed profusely after the scabs come off. This would be a trip to the ER and operated on AGAIN.

I'm leaning towards the surgery so I don't have to suffer 5-6 times a year, but the bleeding part is bothering me. Anyone have this surgery as an adult, since recovery time for adult is much greater?

Re: Tonsil Surgery

What's weird is that we had a thread on the exact same topic last week though apparently the titles were sufficiently different that it didn't come up as a suggested thread when you created this on (I actually tried it myself just to see).

Experiences seem to be a bit varied. The chances of bleeding appear to be very low from what I read but doctors are just required to inform you that there is that risk. Also, there seem to be a number of different methods for the surgery, some of which seem to have almost negligible recovery time.

Yeah, I know its wikipedia but you can check the external links for more info.
