He needs a sinker with lots of movement as his primary pitch. He rarely throws a traditional 4-seamer, and even that isn't all that straight due to his low 3/4s arm slot. 4SFB should be his #4 pitch behind the curve & change and ahead of his cutter. Individual average pitch velocities and usage numbers can be found at each of the links.

Here is his Fangraphs PITCHf/x page. Notice the use of what's classified as a two-seam fastball (FT) 65.8% of the time. The 2011 movement on this pitch is (-9.1, 1.6), which is quite a lot for a fastball to say the least.

For a comparison, Roy Halladay's much-ballyhooed sinker/two-seamer (again classified as 2SFB by Fangraphs) checks in at (-9.7, 3.2). So Morton gets slightly less armside run with somewhat more sink. Obviously, "Ground Chuck" doesn't have the command over the pitch Halladay does, but in terms of movement (and velocity), they are strikingly similar. To get a visual feel for how his pitches move (and frequency), here is a great catcher's perspective spin movement graph from his Texas Leaguers page. I used from August on due to some mid-season changes in his repertoire, notably more cutters and fewer sliders, as well as more fading changeups than straight-changes.

Also the Sinker needs to be his primary pitch and the Circle Change his #2 based on his pitch usage numbers from last year

His 4SB velocity needs to be toned down and his Sinker velocity needs to be boosted

It's a lot of work, but BrooksBaseball.net will tell ya what every pitcher really throws & how often, amongst other interestin' info.
At the very least you could consider lookin' into usin' that info next year for Show13.

At the very least you could consider lookin' into usin' that info next year for Show13.

But if the guys posting would look it up for this year and post the link to the page...that would facilitate it getting done this year!

Felix Hernandez / RHP / starter
It may seem like Felix has been around forever, but he’s just 25 years old, and only beginning to hit his prime. His success starts with his fastball that can touch 100 mph. Felix will typically pitch in the low to mid-90s however, getting some amazing sinking action with his 2-seamer. He likes pitching inside to right-handed hitters, burying that 2-seamer under their bats. Felix has been improving his secondary pitches and can snap off two different breaking balls. His slider is very hard, and usually much sharper than the curve, but they both get nasty downward movement. Over the last two seasons, Hernandez has made the biggest strides with his changeup. The Venezuelan will throw this pitch to RHs or LHs, often preferring it over his slider or curve.

You are definitely correct about the "sinker".

Felix Hernandez is one of the most difficult starting pitchers in the majors to assign correct pitch types to on The Show.

He calls this "sinker" his 2 seam fastball. He actually does get a 2 seam movement (according to The Show's movement of the 2 seam fastball) on it fairly often.

The following graph clearly depicts both of these movements. The 2 seam fastball shows up as a "FF" (four seam fastball).



The following graph also shows that his "sinker" often moves as a 2 seam fastball moves on The Show. This is depicted as the "SI" pitches in white on the left hand side of the sinkers that are displayed. It clearly shows many of his 2 seam fastballs moving as 2 seam fastball and sinkers.



With that being said, he does throw another fastball that almost always moves like a cutter. This is not his slider. The cut fastball is depicted in the following graph as the "FC" in yellow. Some of these cutters are also labeled in red as FA's and/or FF's



Cutters and sliders are often times labeled incorrectly on pitch f/x sites. Some sliders and labeled as cutters and some cutters are labeled as sliders.

The fact is that Felix Hernandez rarely throws anything that is straight. I would strongly suggest removing his 4 seam fastball.

As for his changeup, it was the second most valuable change-up in the majors in 2011 (link) behind Cole Hamels' change-up. His changeup has been the second most valuable changeup in the majors over the 2010 and 2011 seasons combined.

I would assign him the following pitches in the order that they are listed:

sinker
circle-change
curveball
slider
2 seamer, cutter or splitter (all three pitches/choices are realistically accurate pitches)

For the record, I just edited his suggested repertoire because I typed it out incorrectly.

And according to Brooks Baseball, Felix's 4 Seam does have tail on his fastball and the rare "cutter" thrown is just him probably getting around the ball

Men he call a sinker but the show it's different the physic to move the same way in real life, just you know jason19 have the best edits for last year game he's a beast and really understand this game if you play with his roster you will love how to real life the pitchers are......

Thanks for the link. I'm glad to see him refer to it as a sinker.

To further clarify about this pitch, it does move like a sinker moves on The Show more than anything. But besides that and its 2 seam movement (according to the 2 seam fastball's movement on The Show), often times it gets a lot of straight downward movement on it. This appears as a splitter does on The Show and as a straight changeup does in real life. Keep in mind, he throws this pitch around 91-93 mph. It's one of the craziest and most unique pitches in baseball.

It's too bad that this can't be replicated on The Show.

The same thing applies to quite a few pitcher's pitches. For many players, you have to give them two or three different pitches to represent one grip that they throw in different manners to get slightly different breaks.

Sometimes, you just can't replicate a pitch at all because the actual movement of a pitch is in between the movement that The Show uses for its pitches.
