Man in Motion while the ball is hiked.

I thought this was illegal in football. Why is it legal in Madden? Here's what I got on Wikipedia-

In all forms of football, only players in the backfield and not on the line of scrimmage may be in motion at the time of the snap. Prior to starting the motion, all players on the offensive side must be in a set formation for a minimum of one second.

In videos' from E3, I have seen alot of TE that are on the line be set in motion, only for the Center to hike the ball while the TE is still behind the OL.

Re: Man in Motion while the ball is hiked.

If you are not on the line (7 must be on line) you can be in motion.
EXCEPT: if you are on line and come off line and another player goes up to line to re-make 7, then the players have to reset and not move. After reset though the player off the line can be in motion during snap.
You cannot however be going forward at snap.

If you are seeing a TE that is part of the 7 on the line move in motion and ball is snapped then yeah that is illegal

Yes, the TE is on the front 7. Half the time its only a 2 receiver set.

You can be moving at the snap, however, it cannot be towards the line of scrimmage.

Yes then he moves away from the line and one of the receivers steps up.

No problem

Then why is it, we don't see this happen in the NFL all the time?

Re: Man in Motion while the ball is hiked.

If the tight end is one of 7 on the line of scrimmage and he goes in motion one of the receivers or other tight ends off the line of scrimmage step forward and get set. As long as the motion man isn't moving forward and the player who took his spot is set then it is legal.

You do see it happen in the NFL all the time. Usually if you see a tight end motion though the receivers aren't shown on screen. Also if you have ever seen a jet-sweep or the wildcat formation usually a running back or receiver go in motion.

I'm not sure what team you watch the most, but you can see it in teams that line up and run a lot of power formations. Such as the Houston, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and the sort.
