UNC Academic Fraud info

For some reason the main national sports websites (i.e. ESPN/CBS/FOX) won't touch this story. But Pat Forde at Yahoo had one recently and this article digs deeper into it. Very interesting reporting here and I hope the NCAA and National Media will look more into it:

Re: UNC Academic Fraud info

It's funny, NC State message boards are doing more digging than the actual media on this.

I have a feeling, if this was UK, every press outlet in America would be all over it.

Re: UNC Academic Fraud info

So his argument is that Roy Williams right hand man leaving is the reason players stopped majoring in that subject?

Why didn't he list which players were majoring in those courses?

Re: UNC Academic Fraud info

So what exactly are the charges here?

There's nothing illegal, or even out of the norm, with athletes signing up for "easy" classes.

The NCAA already dropped the ban hammer on the football team for having tutors write players' papers and homework.

Are they trying to say the basketball team was involved in the same thing?

Yes, what I think they are saying is there is enough smoke there for the ncaa to look into the basketball program and how they were involved with the bogus classes.

From 2003-2009 there were several players, according to their research, that took this class. Specifically in the title year, 2004-2005, 7 of the 13 players on the team were a part of it. If you punish the football team, shouldn't you punish the basketball team if they were also involved? More to the point, the author is inferring that the person behind it all is someone that has been with Roy Williams since his Kansas days.

Re: UNC Academic Fraud info

Background: diehard UNC basketball fan

Is there any information out there about basketball players breaking academic honor codes?

If there is evidence of cheating that comes forward I want the NCAA to take the right action.

If the only evidence is the fact that it looks bad on paper that all these guys are taking AA studies, then there's no reason to do anything.

Re: UNC Academic Fraud info

Are you guys serious? There wasn't one shred of evidence/smoke in that "article" posted. I am no UNC fan, but the way the article is written tries to make it sound ominous/shady, but the truth is a lot of guys move with coaches from job to job. They try and paint it like the guy left because he saw a scandal coming, when it actually sounds like the dude got married and moved on in life.

Sorry, but I just don't see why anyone should be up in arms about this.
