Franchise Tag

Has anyone had any experience with the Franchise Tag?
What happens if I use it?
Will I be able to renegotiate the contract later on?
I have a guy I pissed off b/c I offered a low ball offer and he won't talk now so it looks like franchise tag is the only way to go.

Use your franchise tag to keep your players for one more year when you don't want them to hit free agency.

Apparently I'm doing it wrong but I did in fact look up Franchise Tag, Tag, and "Franchise Tag" and got no results for these threads but thanks for the help.
