    first pitch meatballs....bug?

So I've played 3 full games and then first few innings of 2 or 3 others to test this out...

I really hate to cry wolf, but this seems to be a pretty consistent issue. The CPU throws first pitch strikes on nearly every at-bat. I'm not talking just strikes, I'm talking outright, fastball meatballs. My study isn't scientific, and I don't have an exact count, but especially in the first few innings this is a problem. The first pitch of the ball game has been a meatball every game. You can literally sit on the first pitch and hammer it.

I have yet to tease out whether the CPU can adapt, but its a problem that I can jump out to an easy, fat lead.

Anyone else experiencing this? This strikes me as a huge problem.

What mode are you playing in, and what difficulty?

bump your difficulty up a little. Last year I was playing on veteran and was getting fairly accurate results and I found for this year I had to bump to up to All-Star to get those same results. Just my findings so far through 5 games.

Actually, I'm noticing the same issue. Hall of Fame in RTTS.

"You can literally sit on the first pitch and hammer it"

You say that, but...are you actually doing it? The AI DOES adapt in this game to situations like this (it explains in the in-game strategy guide). If it sees you taking deep strikes, It's not going to worry as much about trying to paint the corners and just come after you. Swing at those (and hit them solidly) and the AI will be more cautious, try to pick the corners more and get you to chase. In short, you get a more balanced approach from the AI when you have good plate coverage.

I'll post exactly where it says this in the guide if I need to.

Same here. Its fine in regular games, but in RTTS the first pitch is almost always right down the middle. Playing on HOF too.

Its happening in my All star settings in RTTS. I now have 12 HRs and most are first pitch. Ive played 17 games. The first week of the season I hit at least a home run a game and had 3 in one game. Im crushing everything, at least last year they intentionally walked me more when Id crush for a few games..guess my scouting report isnt out there yet.

This. Think about it. Why should a pitcher worry about being too careful when you don't swing the bat?

It's very easy to see if CPU does indeed throw first-pitch strikes too often. Within the game, go to Pitcher Analysis and set Situation filter to First Pitch and Result filter to Taken. That will show you exactly the number you want to check, Strike %. Unless you are extremely patient or hacking at every first pitch, you should see that number hovering around 55 - 65 % range.

I hit 6 triples in my first month in AA and like others I kept seeing the first pitch strike. Six triples in a month? Guys don't get that in a whole season lololol

Edit - after looking at some averages for triples last year, some guy on the brewers led the league with 4 triples.. I hit 6 in a month. Up outfield speed or lower my baserunning speed? My guy only has a 56 speed rating.

I never complain about anything in the Show but this is a tad bit over the top for me.

That's point of lower difficulty setting? You can still change this, turn down CPU strike % in the sliders.

There's always been way too many strikes thrown on the default settings in this game, especially on the easier difficulty settings. So no, it's not a bug; just got to make slider adjustments.

I've noticed this as well in my Franchise. It seems everytime a new reliever comes in their first pitch is always a fastball right down the heart of the plate.

I noted this as well on my RTTS. I tend to hammer the first pitch for either a 2B, 3B or HR. I wouldn't really mind too much if it was a strike painting the black, but a vast majority of the first pitch are fat pitches right down the pipe.

I'm worried about playing with the slider will negatively affect the other pitches. There's no "First Pitch Strike" slider. If I lower Strike %, it may negatively affect the total % of strikes thrown.

I've tried to hold off on swinging on the first pitch because I hit the ball so freaking hard if I swing. What happens is that 80% of my at bats where I don't swing at the first pitch is that I'm down 0-1.
