As good as this game is on SO many fronts, the sliding into first idiocy nearly RUINS the entire game. It's the dumbest f'n play in baseball, it's NEVER viable and yet the computer automatically makes my guys slide into first REGULARLY. Please, please, please fix this idiocy. It's soooo bad.

MLB 23 FOREVER 20 is better, 23 just for Guardians
Madden get rid of the extras (SS/XF, HFA, media, scenarios, game plan) or turn them down considerably.Comment

Re: Sliding into first
Yeah, I don't really know what people do to cause this, but it's clear there are people who seem to have issues with it every single year. And it never happens to me.
With no motion control sliding on PS4, I'm guessing it's probably holding the analog stick too long after a swing like someone else mentioned.Comment

Ooh, you might be dead on. Thank you!! I'll do some button swinging for a bit and see if the frequency is still sky-high because I've played about 30 games and seen it at least 15 times (no exaggeration).Comment

Re: Sliding into first
sounds like your controller needs to be re-calibrated as it thinks dead center is something different. Simply restarting the system and making sure the sticks were not being touched at all, re-calibrated controllers on older systems, I do not know if that works on the new gen.Comment

Re: Sliding into first
However, if the runner is just going through the bag then yes it is not a smart play as it is quicker to stay on your feet.
Also it must be something where you are pre-loading the slide unintentionally after you hit the ball.Comment

Re: Sliding into first
On the contrary sliding into first is a very smart move if the first basemen gets pulled off of the base on a throw towards the runner or if he has to jump to catch a ball and needs to apply a tag. In those instances it is absolutely the right call.

Sometimes runners feel like they need to slide because they've gotten their stride out of whack and may not make it to the bag on a full stride.
But I will agree, if you're not a naturally fast runner or a natural head-first slider, not very smart. Just ask Josh Hamilton and the Angels.Comment

Re: Sliding into first
I played D-1 baseball and for me sliding into first was not a part of my game unless the 1st basemen was pulled off of the base in my direction. However, I have played with and against guys that were generally very effective at doing it on close plays. You just have to be smart about it because it is very easy to jam fingers and wrists as well as getting stepped on (not fun).Comment

Re: Sliding into first
Haha as an A's fan I laughed when I saw him try that. Just hit bombs and swing at everything thrown in your general direction Josh. I think the guy that utilizes the headfirst slide the best is Nick Punto.

I personally never do it, as like you, it's not part of my game. I've only ever done it once and it was because I thought I was going to get beaned by a bad throw. It wasn't strategy, it was self-preservation.Comment
