Friendly Reminder: Playoff Rosters

For folks playing 162 game franchises, keep in mind that for a player to be eligible for a playoff roster, he must have been on the MLB team by August 31st or else he'll be ineligible.

Re: Friendly Reminder: Playoff Rosters

I'm actually glad you posted this, as this is something I've been confused about in the past. Anytime I tried to add a guy to the playoff roster, it would only tell me 'You can not add this player to the playoff roster, unless he's replacing an injured player', but I didn't know about them having to be on the main roster by the 31st.

Only question I have is, what if you add them to the MLB roster on the 30th, then send him back down to the minors on September 2nd through the rest of the regular season. Would he still be eligible? Or does he have to remain on the MLB roster for the remainder of the season to still qualify?

I believe he just needs to make an appearance before that date.

What I always do is play may August 31st game, manually SIM my MiLB games and then call up all the players I want to be eligible for the playoffs. Then SIM to the next day on the calender, Sept. 1st, and then send everyone back to the minors until the minor league seasons end. Then call up whoever I want to when the rosters expand.

This is one area where I think SCEA got it wrong. I believe in real life players only have to be in the teams organization on Sept. 1st to be eligible for the playoffs not on the active roster. But someone on OS came up with this work around a couple years ago and it works perfectly so it's no big deal.

Re: Friendly Reminder: Playoff Rosters

They did not do it wrong. Playoff eligibility is before roster expansion. If you haven't played before rosters expand, you're ineligible.

The Tigers did this with Avisail Garcia 2 years ago.

Yes. Its a MLB rule, so its a game rule. 1 team control or 30 team.

Franchise SIM is dead. Find your favorite iterations and play it forever. Card games are whats "now" and games will cater in that direction and forget realism.

Just have fun and play :)
