1946-47 BAA/NBL Season Rosters [Xbox One]

    1946-1947 BAA/NBL Season

    I'm back at it again.

Sorry there's no cool picture here, but let's pretend there is.

Welcome back to the early days of basketball. The league we know as the NBA has roots in two leagues - the BAA and the NBL.

Franchises that started in the BAA:

    Boston Celtics

    New York Knicks

    Golden State Warriors (Philadelphia Warriors)

Franchises that started in the NBL:

    Sacramento Kings (Rochester Royals)

Detroit Pistons (Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons)

    Philadelphia 76ers (Syracuse Nationals)

    Atlanta Hawks (Tri-Cities Blackhawks)

The Lakers played in the NBL during the following season.

It's not often we see homage towards the ones that started it all, along with their struggles in a league that was still relatively new. In this roster, you'll go back to basketball fundamentals, which take advantage of 2K16's improved gameplay.

I studied the early days of basketball for a long while, so I thought I should put that studying to good use. I did this roster for 2K16, but only finished the BAA before 2K16's release. If you don't have 2K16 yet, be sure to give it a try. The file is named "46-47".

I'm going to release 2 at a time for you guys. Usually in relevant pairings (Ex: Celtics and Knicks.). With each release, I'll give you guys a bit of history behind that team's season as well.

I've already done some branding for the Philadelphia Warriors with stuff that's already in-game. (As in, without uploading anything.) Too bad Xbox doesn't let me share the screenshots yet. I think the jerseys came out really nice and I wanted to show you guys. It breaks my heart that we can only do three teams, though. But I guess we can just rebrand before every game, right? (That's convenient, right 2K?!)

    How can I help?

Uh, I don't need much help on the roster side, actually. I just need time. I don't think you can give me that.

Logos, that's a different thing. I need logos and jersey concepts for the teams. I want to update the branding for a lot of these teams. Some of the old logos are kinda racy (Philadelphia Warriors and Sheboygan Redskins), some are just way too old (Rochester Royals and Syracuse Nationals), while some just plain don't have logos (Toledo Jeeps and Chicago American Gears).

If you want to lend a hand with this, it'd be greatly appreciated. PM it or post them in the thread. Below is a list of what teams need branding.

    BAA:

Washington Captiols - Needs Branding! (No Logos)

    Philadelphia Warriors - Done.

New York Knicks - Done. (No rebrand, they're fine.)

    Providence Steamrollers - Done.

Boston Celtics - Done. (No rebrand, they're fine.)

    Toronto Huskies - Done.

    Chicago Stags - Done.

    St. Louis Bombers - Done.

    Cleveland Rebels - Needs Branding!

    Detroit Falcons - Needs Branding!

    Pittsburgh Ironmen - Done.

    NBL:

Rochester Royals - Needs an Update.

Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons - Needs an Update.

    Toledo Jeeps - Needs Branding!

    Youngstown Bears - Needs Branding!

    Oshkosh All-Stars - Needs Branding!

    Indianapolis Kautskys - Needs Branding!

Chicago American Gears - Needs Branding! (Important, since the best player of both leagues was on this team.)

Sheboygan Redskins - Needs an Update/Rebrand.

Anderson Duffey Packers - Needs Branding!

Detroit Gems - Needs Branding! (4-40 record...)

Make sure if you help with a logo, the logo works with 2K's upload system. As in, it's transparent, and fits within the ratios of 1:1, 2:1 or 4:1 depending on what logo type it is.

    Updates:

    11/13/15:
    Download the Nationals Update!
    File Name: 1946-47
    GT: Crystar500

    Teams Done:
    Boston Celtics
    Philadelphia Warriors (Golden State Warriors)
    Chicago Stags (Milwaukee Bucks)
    New York Knicks
    Syracuse Nationals (Philadelphia 76ers)

    Thanks everyone! Stay tuned!

You can't use the Reditor on next gen rosters from what I know of. Everything is handmade.

They all look amazing! The Warriors are still my favorite, though. Are those all within 2K's format?

Yup, they're all png files and either 1:1 or 4:1. I haven't done any 2:1's though, not sure about the arena names.

Ah, don't worry about the arena names. They were all pretty generic at the time, like "Philadelphia Arena". Thanks again. I'll finish up the Warriors soon and see how they look under the branding.

                          1946-47 Philadelphia Warriors

We just witnessed the Golden State Warriors win a title in 2015. But, we should remember the first ever title under the Warriors franchise. Above is a snapshot of the entire team after they won the NBA's first ever title. The team was led by Kentucky native Joe Fulks (#10).

Fulks played before the All-Star game was ever invented (in 1951). If the All-Star game had existed, he surely would've made it. He did make it in 1951 and 1952, but he was close to the end of his prime then. Fulks was short for a Power Forward by today's standards, actually, standing at 6'5".

The only footage on Fulks on the internet is a 30-second clip. That wasn't enough to rate him, of course. I used Basketball Reference's Similarity Scores to help. Fulks has a Similarity Score closest to Anthony Davis, so I used Davis's ratings as a base before adjusting it here and there to fit Fulks.

You can test out the entire Warriors roster right now.

                          GT: Crystar500

You can also rebrand them in MyLeague if you wish! The logos made by Juvie are uploaded to my account as well. Just search my Gamertag.

Next Up: The Chicago Stags, who the Warriors defeated in the BAA Finals, 4-1.

The Overall Ratings: (In Spoilers for those who don't want it spoiled.)
                          Spoiler

I would use them against lower-ranked NBA teams for now. A lot of current teams will brutalize them.

I unfortunately have fallen ill recently. I've put out what I managed to do before becoming ill.

                            These changes include:
Max Zaslofsky, SG of the Chicago Stags (Bucks)
Chick Halbert, C of the Chicago Stags (Bucks)
George Mikan, C of the Chicago American Gears (Bulls)
Glen Selbo, SG/SF of the Oshkosh All-Stars (Mavericks)
Elmer Gainer, PF/C of the Anderson Duffey Packers (Spurs)
Robert Bolyard, SG/SF of the Anderson Duffey Packers (Spurs)

I'll do my best to update again tomorrow.

                              [SIZE="6"]Chicago Stags[SIZE]

The Stags played in the first NBA Finals ever, in 1947 against the Philadelphia Warriors. They didn't really put up much of a fight when they got there, though. The Warriors beat the Stags 4-1.

To be fair, when your best player is a 21 year old kid in a brand new league, you probably won't be able to win a title. Especially when the opposing team featured hardened World War II veterans like Joe Fulks, who would abuse opposing players in the post, along with in the paint. Max Zaslofsky was left without any chance. He was this young kid trying to lead a team.

If the 1947 Finals happened today, the media would likely label Zaslofsky as a "choker". Zaslofsky still holds records for some of the lowest scoring performances in NBA Finals history. But that wasn't his game. Zaslofsky was a bit of a Rondo-esque type of player. He'd be there to facilitate the offense and penetrate the opposing defense.

Again, he was only 21 at the time, and basically a rookie. So I don't blame the performances on him too much. He was like a deer in headlights when it came to the Finals. (See what I did there? Stags, so he's a deer? I'll stop.)

Zaslofsky later became an All-Star in New York, his only All-Star game appearance. Yet he still was a very effective player despite that. As for the other guys on the team? Don Carlson and Tony Jaros both went on to win rings with George Mikan on the Lakers, in both the NBL and BAA.

The Canadian fans might like Norm Baker, who is a Canadian Basketball Hall-of-Famer. Baker was a Canadian star, but the American game was different, supposedly. With a payroll of just $4,800, Baker struggled for minutes behind Zaslofsky, and only appeared in 4 games. He later played against the Harlem Globetrotters on several barnstorming teams.

The Chicago Bulls later payed homage to the Stags:

Now done are the Chicago Stags! Play as them now in the roster. If you want to rebrand as them, the logos made by Juvie are under my GT!

Also added Bob Duffy (PF/SF) to the Boston Celtics.
Edited rotations of teams with CAPs on them without the full roster done. The CAPs were made so they were in the starting five. Those teams are the Mavs, Bulls, Pistons, Celtics, and Spurs.
Edited the generic dude on the Warriors. Gave him a sort of 40s type of name, and a better hook shot so he's not completely useless.
