Zero reason to use high overall pitchers

With these guys out there...

Carlos Martinez
Yordano VenturA
Garret Richards

If you can hit the pitch meter, these guys are just nasty

I never pick anything above bronze pitchers in Battle Royale, and never spend stubs on them unless it involves a mission. Not worth it.

Walker for the Mariners is really good. Great fastball/change up velocity differential.

Re: Zero reason to use high overall pitchers

I like threads like these, wish they got more exposure.
Someone should start a thread "Pitcher gems rated 85 & under" or keep this one going ;-)

There's a good number of lower overall rated pitchers that are just filthy both on and offline.
Gotta agree with your choices T.Walker I have a hard time hitting myself.
I'll add a couple which I've pitched with recently:

83 Michael Wacha (STL), the K machine from St-Louis. Incredibly effective mix of pitches
76 Roenis Elias (BOS) a Lefty with good command and a good mix of pitches to keep your opponents off balance. His Break rating is 90, that says it all.
73 Steven Wright (BOS) this guy is like a young RA Dickey with his nasty KnuckleCurve AND a curve + standard fastball.

On the higher end (but still not diamond) if you can afford 88 Darvish @ less than 10k, go for it

I completely disagree. Their ratings are too low, making the PCI huge and it's easy to crush them. I absolutely smoke those three.

Now a power pitcher WITH good ratings... those can be tough. Harvey, De Grom, Syndergaard, 89 Ubaldo, etc.

I'm speaking for DD H2H.

^^ it's all relative. if you're opponent is pitching down the middle or painting the edges etc. All the pitchers mentioned have good enough command not to throw meatballs.

but really ANY pitcher will get rocked when pitched with poorly, including your DeGroms, Harveys & Arrietas...

And you've played against Steven Wright online? I find that a bit suprising tbh.

Re: Zero reason to use high overall pitchers

89 Ubaldo is a beast in my rotation and I get him even more frequently since I added Perry and hes my #1. I would never buy a pitcher, but I will take a solid legend or FB for completing a collection.

I actually think FB Liriano is really tough and have had some great games with him.

Re: Zero reason to use high overall pitchers

I liked FB Liriano as well until I got spanked 2 times. And for some reason I can't hit against him either.

I've been trying a lot of the lower rated FB's, they all seem to be good for a couple innings then they lose command or get hit hard.

I guess with all these pitchers it's all or nothing, they can have pitching gems as well as duds. That can pretty much be said about ALL pitchers, but the lower rated ones have more duds than gems, let's be honest.

He's the 5th guy in my rotation. He's 3-0, but I stopped using him because it felt like cheese.

I don't like how the unpredictability of a knuckleball doesn't translate so well in this game, I want the catcher almost as confused as the batter out there. But no, the pitches go very close to exactly where you want them everytime, and the catcher always knows exactly where to grab it. Meh.
