    Storyline of NBA 2k18

So I have been seeing a lot of post of people complaining about the NBA 2k18 Mycareer storyline. So much so that I feel like people think its the cool thing to do. You guys hear a few lines from the story and say it's trash and I don't believe that is fair to everyone involved with the production of the story.

So for all of you that feel this storyline is trash, please share with us what you consider a great story on TV, Netflix or just a movie in general because I would love to know.

I for one love the voice acting so far so I am curious to see what you "story critics" taste are.

    Re: Storyline of NBA 2k18

The overall story might be good down the road, who knows, but based on past games I wouldn't bet on it.

The characters are essentially walking cliches with no depth, constantly spouting cheesy one liners and bad jokes. They don't come off as human, they come off like caricatures. Everyone has to have a nickname or gimmick so they can make puns off it. The agent is always annoying and greedy, the coaches spout generic sports lines without having a real personality of their own. Most the characters have specific roles they are there to play and don't actually add anything to the experience. You swap them out between different 2k iterations and nothing is lost.

Nah breh, the beginning is corny, the lines are corny and clichรฉ.
An ex prospect who turned into a dj who wants to go back to playing ball and who gets discovered in a random playground tournament ?

      The gameplay is okay tho.

Props to you if you like it, not trying to bash you or anything but yeah...it is what it is.

Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Death Note, almost any Netflix original tv series, anything with a decent plot and logical character development just to answer your question.

But in honesty, like someone else said, no one's really judging the game yet, but really looking at 2K's body of work and seeing how that translates into the next game, gameplay and story wise. I skipped 2K17 but if 2K16 is any indication of how they make stories or allow them to be created and developed, then don't do one at all. For one, it's not really needed and comes off corny, cheesy, and cringeworthy. The nicknames and the added hoops just to get to play hoops in the NBA also aren't necessary. The open world concept would be enough given they added enough fun things to do on your off days or after games.

I Agree the story isn't really needed in a sports game. Just let us go through the NBA Draft Combine, put in the work, get drafted and get our endorsements and unlockables as we go without having to watch a Cheesy *** story play out. 2K would be fine with only having some cutscenes during post game interviews and maybe a few during meaningful games throughout the season and after a championship cause these Story mode plots and nicknames are wack.

                Yeah, that's what I want.

I don't like the story because it took out the high-school games and the colleges.

I wish they would focus more on it being open-ended, when is the last time we got to choose our own nickname for instance?

I'm ok with the storyline per se. It has no depth and is treated as a quickie recess while you "journey" towards getting that 99. The MyCareer storyline is a quick pull over, a pit stop that becomes irrelevant as players only have one destination in mind -- 99.

Judging from the prelude only so far - it is bad. I'm not looking to bash or complain, but it is preeettty corny. I don't feel like it's as relatable as past stories have been, even though they were corny and annoying in places too. At LEAST they felt like real stories. The DJ thing...blehh. Who's that lady in my crib? Why did you come back to hoops? Eh.

I will take it though- at least I can play for who I want to play for from the jump!

They really need to stop trying to tell stories in my career because they've all fallen flat imo.

I don't want any of these stories. I've said it before but give me NBA 2k10 when you had draft combine, summer league, training camp D-league. Where it felt like everyone's path was slightly different. Its one of the things I love about MLB's RTTS, minimal cut scenes and each play through feels different because its not the same corny experience.

2k could've at least attempted to use the same body model you created. I created a 7'3 center and during the (unskippable) cut scenes you look shorter than everyone else.

I'm fine with a storyline just give me choices and lots of them

I like to create multiple players and with a storyline everybody's pretty much gonna end up having the same story which takes out a lot of the replay value from the game. With it also being scripted it takes a lot of control away from the player. Instead I'd like to see different storylines.

For a mode that claims to be an RPG it's disappointing that there are very few choices aside from what skills to upgrade and what MyPark clothes to buy.

You could start by letting us choose our background

The inner city kid trying to make the NBA

The guy from the suburbs who tries to prove that he belongs where everyone thinks he was handed everything from the start but actually busts his *** off like everybody else. Something like this

The son of a former player trying to live up to his fathers legacy and maybe pass him.

The international guy who played ball in another country trying to make it in America and in the NBA. Who has a cousin that loves basketball and Bowling

Then of course during our careers lots of storylines should happen. What if after playing on the same team for a couple of seasons and you're tired of losing you sign with a different team.

                              Spoiler

A Rivalry with a player that goes way back and you have a history with him? Something like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Sure we saw a rivalry playout in 2k14 with Jackson Ellis but it was pretty weak.
                              <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/K3Z9To7oZrw" allowfullscreen="" height="315" frameborder="0" width="560"></iframe>

What if we're one of the most explosive players in the league and we get injured?
                              <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kP6xFR07GJQ" allowfullscreen="" height="315" frameborder="0" width="560"></iframe>

                              Choosing my agent
                              <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zQbDBl1D5po" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The agent plays very important part in your career negotiating your NBA contracts and endorsement deals. You don't have to be loyal to them and can fire them at any time. Signing with one agent might lead to better money but he has too many clients and hardly has any time for you. Signing with another agent might who might treat you like family but he isn't good at getting you good deals.

There's just so many things they can do It's disappointing that they decided to go for a cheap scripted lame story instead.
