New to NBA 2k. Need advice on running offense.

I haven't played a basketball game or really followed basketball in general since maybe 2011/12. So my basketball IQ is a lot lower than it used to be. I'm wondering if it's a good idea for me to turn on auto play calling on offense and defense and follow the animations on the screen or if I should browse the playbook and just focus on a handful of plays throughout the game?

Im also not entirely sure what freelance offense is all about.

I'd focus on a handful of plays. For freelances I'd look for videos. Look up da_czar's videos if you need to learn how freelance offense works in general. If you just want to learn the actions in each offense you can probably find random videos on that. Maybe look at the freelance offense thread as well? I don't know what's in that thread but it couldn't hurt right?

All about ball movement, drive and kick, passing buttons are touch sensitive this year, tap in the direction and you will pass to the closest guy hold and you will hit the guy furthest away aways way to get open shots.

Turn on auto-playcalling and just run what's on the screen.

That'll help out a ton until you get more used to the playcalling in the game.

-Go to practice and find 2-3 plays that get your shooters open.
-Learn the dribble moves and how to break down defenders
-Master the pick and roll
-Learn some basic post moves particularly the drop step, hook shot and fadeaway.

If that's too much then you can simply turn on auto-play and learn the pick and roll.

Imo running plays isn't really necessary. You can get by with just isolations and pick and rolls if you're proficient enough with them.

Also, even if you have auto plays on, you can still change the play once you learn how to call plays.
