Can Someone Explain to Me What Potential Means?

Sorry if this has already been answered before, but I am new to NHL 18. In Franchise Mode, each player has a potential with EXACT, Med, Low, etc and a label next to it? What exactly do all these mean? I know what exact, starter, fringe starter mean exactly, but what about top 7, top 6, bottom 6, etc? Is that overall (like top 6 forward in the league), or on the team, or am I totally wrong?

Can Someone Explain to Me What Potential Means?

As a casual to this series, I would like more insight into this also. I have started a franchise with the lightning, and right now we are on the championship round and don’t won’t to change anything but I know I will eventually have to rebuild. I’m already thinking about moving Namestnikov....

Franchise: 94-98
Elite: 87-93
Top 6 Forward: 83-87
Top 9 Forward: 80-82
Bottom 6 Forward: 78-81
Top 4 D: 84-87
Top 6 D:81-83
7th D: 78-80
Starter: 84-88
Fringe Starter: 82-84
Backup: 79-82

I THINK low, med, high tag is the probability that player will reach his potential.

Edit- It seems the low, med, high, exact tag is your scouts accuracy on the player.

Since there are 3 forwards, “top 6” for example means they could land on line 1 or line 2. Top 9 means anywhere on line 1, 2, or 3.

Defense means the same thing, top 4 this time meaning either line 1 or 2. Top 7 would mean he is a healthy scratch - the first defensivemen called up if someone gets an injury.

This helped a lot. Thank you! Greatly appreciate the response.

So is low elite, better than med top6 forward? There gives a ton low elite in my franshise draft
How u improve players? most of them are mid 50 overall. If u leave them unsigned they grow maybe 4 overall.

Re: Can Someone Explain to Me What Potential Means?

There are four levels

Low, Medium, high, exact

This is how well the player has been scouted. An exact is definitely going to be an elite, fringe starter, etc. while a low is a loose depiction and medium and high are their respective levels of how much is known about the player.

A low elite is a bigger risk/reward than a high top 6

Thanks for the info.

So does this mean the player will fit in that range in their Prime, or the Highest they will ever be, or in the near future?
And if it is a medium Top 9, could the player get to be in the upper 80s sometimes?
