As mentioned in the linked article, the "realistic simulation" part has me intrigued. If it ends up being too arcadey, I'm out.

If they implement a good damage model system, then this is something I can get excited about. Ideally for me it would be a case where if you abuse your equipment too much, then there's a hefty toll to pay. (not only in repairs but loss of performance, and even break downs)

And certainly a good physics engine is paramount.

Reminds me of the first Motorstorm...no XB1 logo at the end of the trailer though.*

It's coming to PC, Xbox One and PS4. That trailer just happens to be on the official PlayStation YouTube channel. I'll update the OP w/ the video from the official DAKAR YouTube channel now, to avoid confusion.

That's what I was thinking also. The first 2 Motostorm games were fantastic.

Looks fun. Do motorcycles and buses really race wheel to wheel like that in Dakar though?

This might actually be pretty good. 180 times larger than GTA V, open world 2-3 hour stages if I heard him right.

Will see, controls look like they need work but, it may be fun.

Very good video and developer interview- thanks for posting.

I came away mostly encouraged, specifically at the repeated mention of these terms: simulation, navigation/exploration, tactical/strategy, damage, open-world.

Very glad to hear the developer emphasize over and over that this is not a game where you stay full throttle. You have to take care of the vehicle, and as he said- your speed counts for nothing if you can't complete the stage. (paraphrasing)

Other intriguing/positive tidbits- "map reading", fuel and tire damage simulation, saw the vehicle get stuck in mud and have to get pulled out.

As to the comparisons to Motorstorm, now that we're getting a better look at what to expect, there seems to be very little in common here except for the large scale outdoor setting. (that's good news for me, maybe disappointing for others) Where Motorstorm is all-out arcade, this appears to be on the opposite end of the spectrum.

As kneebon5 and the video mentions, there's work to be done in the control department, but if they can button that up, this is looking like a strong contender for me.
