Konami and UEFA parting

Konami recently announced they will not be partnering with UEFA this year for the Champions League or Europa League rights. It has not been said if EA will buy the rights but it makes the most sense that FIFA will now finally get the rights to the main license they are missing.

Big loss for Konami... I'm pretty sure EA will jump on this for FIFA 19.

Re: Konami and UEFA parting

With all the FUT money that EA is bringing in, the UEFA license should be a drop in the bucket.

Will this mean EA goes all out in career mode and has a licensed World Cup and Euro tournament available? Doubtful.

My main reason for not managing a WC team is the games feel like exhibition games. But I'll be happy with updating European leagues for now. I'm sick of the "Champions Cup" when league games and the FA cup games have such great presentations.

Too much opportunity for EA to expand revenue with the license. No way they pass on it. Champs League special edition FUT cards, Champs League legends, etc...

I would say Konami under-utilized the license, but we all know all EA will do with it is add more FUT packs to take more money from people addicted to gambling.

Just like with SCEA and The Show, now EA will have the soccer market cornered.

The weird thing about it is how Konami really doubled down with it's team licenses and exclusive partnerships or whatever they call them these past few years. I wonder if that recent licensing investment is internally viewed as a failure based on lack of sales growth, and they'll start to let licenses go.
