Badges

It's freaking time to get rid of them. I don't want to hear the cliche comment "it separates superstars from role players". We have ratings and tendencies for most things that happen on the court. Use them! Badges are bailout mechanics for people who want to play reckless.

If you want to use 85+ 3PT rating, fine! You earned if you worked to get to get open. It's just freaking DUMB that the rating is already been boosted close to a 99 rating BEFORE I even put a hand in your face.

Want to know why NBA 2K11 is considered to be one of the greatest games for H2H competition? It didn't have badges and green releases!

Re: Badges

They need to figure something out before people stop playing. There's a reason I go on the neighborhood and see half the courts not being used.

They blatantly lied. When they sat there and said sharps were patched or their badges...yea okay. It's just as bad if not worse now with takeover.

Re: Badges

I wish they moved towards Signature Packages instead of Badges. You should be able to unlock new signature animations specific to that player type and differentiate that way. Kyrie should be unstoppable off the dribble because he has a variety of moves at different speeds, not because he's unlocked some magical superpower to cause his defender to fall more often like in a RPG. Same can be applied on defense for reach around steal animations or for sharps with quicker release animations unlocked.

Many people complained back then that badges would become so overpowered that the underlying ratings go out of the window. We're basically at that point now for certain player types. Take a player with average shooting ratings and give them HoF/Gold badges for Corner Specialist, Limitless Range, Catch and Shoot, and Deep Range Deadeye with a teammate with Dimer passing them the ball. That average shooter just became Klay Thompson in-game.

Even offline, some badges are tied into animation branching so deep that you can't have one without the other. I've learned to just live with the bad that comes with badges as long as they continue adding normal animations, attributes, and player tendencies outside of the badge system.

Re: Badges

For online play badges are never going away, the overwhelming majority of players love them. The best that could happen would be for offline play to have a toggle to disable them, but even that is unlikely, IMO, because they may be inexorably tied into core gameplay now.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Re: Badges

Badges, shot meter, grand badges, takeover, green releases... All of them are bad ideas and mess up the game.
Badges are more important than attributes and have way more effect in most cases.

Re: Badges

Before I begin this tedious task of removing all non-personality badges from all the players, are there any content creators on Xbox that have already done this?

I'm also planning to shorten the players by 2 inches per a suggestion in a different thread.

Badges don't increase on decrease ratings. The buff or debuff probability of situations happening. All the game does is reduce penalties that players w/o those badges get

According to Mike Wang...

However, it doesn't matter if it's a ratings boost or "probability" boost....it's still numerical boost in some form.
