Mid-range game going the way of the traditional Big?

Watching the Wiz-Raptors game now and the commentator just said that according to analytics a 3 point shot missed is better than a 2 point shot made from mid-range. As i watch this game...and have been watching since the start of the 2nd quarter and i have yet to see a mid-range shot. Its either 3, drive or closest thing get to the elbow and shoot. The fame has changed so much. Im old lol.

I don't know, maybe I'm traditional, but I always figure points on the board is better than no points on the board.

Analytics gotta love it.

Ask the Rockets if this stat is correct?

I'll take points over a missed shot.

Im with you guys. Im not big into analytics either. Was surprised to hear it...and see it because neither team took a mid-range shot the entire second quarter. A bucket is a bucket.

Re: Mid-range game going the way of the traditional Big?

The players today are better shooters than in the 80's & 90's so I'm not knocking the current players at all. I just don't enjoy this style of play and spend way too much time complaining about the game I'm watching. I mean I watched one guy take a three then at the other end, his opponent took a three. I think 4 or 5 CONSECUTIVE possessions ended with a 3. I'm watching guys miss perimeter shots all the while not a single player has set foot near the paint. That just blows my mind. The 3 was just never that large a part of the game years ago so it's weird watching current offense. I watched the Rockets last year in the playoffs and was amazed that there wasn't a plan b when the outside shots weren't falling. It was as if two point shots weren't being counted so they avoided them!

With everyone running offense so heavily based on statistics, all the teams look the same to me. I like a fast paced team but I also enjoyed teams that grinded in the half court. If someone tells me this style is superior to what was played in the 80's or 90's I can't really argue. I personally don't find it entertaining though.

I'm 28. I've been a basketball fan since I was a kid and this is literally the first time I've ever seen someone argue that not scoring can be better than scoring. These are wild times we live in.

It was crazy man. When he said that i was like...that makes no sense. Basically what they were saying is that a 3 is a better shot that a mid-range 2.
