Check Hooks

Do they work that well In the game? Also I can’t for the life of me do it. I been in practice mode trying to check hook a moving jab straight. But I just can’t time it well enough I guess. Any tips?

Re: Check Hooks

Short answer: no. The check hook is about as useless a strike you could do unless you time a regular strike really well with a massive reach advantage.

The way you can make it work is by using a jab first. If you stop moving and the immediately do a jab - lead hook, the jab will cancel most strikes and the lead hook will catch them as they try to finish whatever preloaded combo they have set up.

I basically used this combo to win most of my entire original ESFL run.

Scroll down to "Block Counters." They're explained there. Short version is that you can get an instant counter if you throw a lead hook after blocking a hook or overhand thrown at (and guarded) on your lead side. So ortho vs ortho, you'd block a rear hook or rear overhand and snap off a lead hook.

If you're southpaw vs ortho, then you'd be able to block their lead hook and snap off one of your own as a counter.

It's a guaranteed hit if you do it right because it'll come out before they can block or before their next punch can come out.

You can do the same thing against body hooks with uppercuts.

The mechanic doesn't include jabs/straights, only hooks and overhands. So if you are trying to get the mechanic to play against a straight, it'll never happen.

Yeah I’ve watched Romero’s counter tips videos which he included the block counters. I’ve pulled some off but my guessing of when a hook or over hand to my lead side is coming is not very good lmao. I appreciate the reply though man.
