While this is great news I think the article is a bit premature. Seems a long way off .* I've played the Madden 08 NCAA mod and while good in its own right the lack of season, dynasty, rankings, playoffs etc have limited long term playability. Play Now only goes so far. What is needed is a dedicated college game maybe from an indie developer with generic teams that can be modded by the community.

There is one coming, possibly - Gridion Champions, for consoles and PC. It is specifically being designed as a college football game with 126 teams and full customization. Of course the challenges will be to make gameplay that's passable, and to ever actually release it (2020 apparently is the target).

Realistically even if it comes, getting the gameplay right will be a next to impossible task. Football gameplay is without a doubt very complex to get right. In reality EA has plenty of talented and very experienced professionals, and Madden is of course far from polished let alone perfect.
