Normal v Front loaded v Back loaded?

I was interested to see others strategy when considering what type of contract to offer players? Discuss advantages and cons, age consideration, bank balance, etc.

Honestly the difference is miniscule right now. I would like more control over how much and the amount I am able to frontload/backload contracts

I would front load older guys that are going to regress.

I would back load if I have big salaries coming off in the next couple years and need to keep spending down.

Other than that, don't think it matters too much.

Has anyone noticed what the CPU does? Do they actually use the options or is it all just normal?

A team like the Yankees who want to sign a premium free agent now but need to have budget flexibility in 3-5 years to sign guys like Judge and Torres when they hit free agency would probably favor a front-loaded deal.

A team signing a star rookie to an extension would want to backload so that the salary increases as the player’s attributes (and salary requirements for morale) increase. Vice versa for a veteran who will be signed into his 30’s.

I haven’t yet had any experience as to whether front loading vs backloading makes a deal more or less attractive to the player. IMO front loading is almost always better for the team while backloading is almost always better for the player(in real life).

Seems to be all backloaded. Wish the CPU would be a bit more strategic about it but hopefully the CPU signings will be staggered enough not to cause problems down the road.
