Switching Positions in Franchise

Do franchise players switch players positions? What is your opinion on switching positions or do you have house rules? In franchises, it seems that certain positions (namely 1B & 3B) are very thin in draft and up and coming talent. I don't do it very often, but occasionally will. In order to switch a player however, he has to have the position listed as a secondary position. Example, I moved Sano from 3rd to 1st after 3 years because I had an up and coming 3rd basemen.

Just wondering what other franchise players do.

All Catchers can also play 1st.

All 1st can play @ least RF.

All 2nd and SS can play @ least 3B + 2B/SS.

All 3B an play 1B.

All LF can play CF/RF.

All RF can play @ least LF.

All CF can play RF/LF.

Re: Switching Positions in Franchise

I just change positions as I see fit. It seems balanced to me because it doesn't always work. I tried converting an outfielder to 3B once. I'm the games at third base he had a ton of errors and looked awful, so I converted him back.

A lot of firstbasemen in the Show dont have the arm strength required of right fielders. Same for moving some 2B to 3B or even SS. I'd also be cognizant of which LF/CF I moved to RF, if their arm strength isn't up to snuff. My personal preference for RF is to be at least 60 arm strength

Re: Switching Positions in Franchise

I sometimes move players when they’re new or during off seasons if they’re declining or static. I look at their secondary positions and skills to see if they might be suited well elsewhere. A few years ago I was playing a Mariners franchise and converted Cruz to 1B because his fielding was a liability despite his arm. He got a couple point bump in overall as a result.

The game also generates a lot of draftees who can only play their main position, so I’ll add secondaries to a lot of them based on their skill set.

Re: Switching Positions in Franchise

I'm flexible with positions, but I make sure that they have the attributes to back it up. I won't move a first baseman to third if he doesn't have the arm strength, I won't move a second baseman to third if he doesn't have the reaction. I'll make sure to add secondary positions if I feel they can play effectively there.

I will also switch primary positions if I think their attributes are better suited. For example, I had a SS who had good speed, reaction, and fielding stats but really lacked in arm strength and accuracy... he's now my CF.

Re: Switching Positions in Franchise

With more and more players playing different positions and now with position players pitching, it will be interesting to see how TheShow handles this moving forward.

I do hate that I can't have a utility player unless they are already pre-set to be one. They are rare cases sure, but like I said becoming more and more a thing. I should be able to choose if a player should have 2b and cf ability at the same time.

Or make it like, you have to have so many innings at a position to be eligible to have it registered as an option.

Re: Switching Positions in Franchise

any other Colorado Rockies guys out there that prefers not to play Chuck Nazty in rightfield? I wound up making him a leftfielder. Its my belief that Coors Field is the only place its better to have better fielding outfield defense over a infield fielding defense. Every other stadium I put the priority on infield defense over outfield defense. Not that I'm complaining about having Nolan lol
