My red zone offense sucks

I can’t score touchdowns when I’m in the red zone. Luckily, my FG keep me in most games, but I know I’ve lost games because I can’t score from 1st and goal from the 5.

I can run all game. Pass all game. But when I get inside the 10, I suck. And the CPU defensive line suddenly becomes beast mode.

Plays, schemes that work inside the red zone?

Turn on aggressive blocking, pick a formation with twin receivers and run a dive with a bubble rpo to the wide side of the field. If they crash, throw it. If not, pound it inside.

Slants, stop routes in spacing concepts, bunch receivers. Red-zone like the user before said is a great place for the RPO bubble concept. Some people have mastered the fade-route timing for the goal line. I haven't, but it's powerful if you can get it down.

Along those lines, tight ends are ridiculously effective inside the red zone on vertical routes.

For example, if you're running ace formation out of a singleback set, call Slants - your receivers on the outside are running slants and your two tight ends are running to the flats.

Hot Route the right WR and right TE to vertical routes (up on the left analog stick). This forces the strong safety to pick one to shade/cover and clears out the underneath stuff just beyond the LOS.

You can keep the left WR on his slant and left TE on his flat if you like, but I hot route them depending on the situation - sometimes I'll put the TE on a drag under the slant if I'm anticipating a blitz or only need a few yards. On 1st and 10 I'll have the left WR run a ten yard dig with the left TE running a five yard in (or vice-versa).

Regardless, your first read's going to be the right side of the field. Watch the strong safety. If he steps outside to cover the right WR immediately check the tight end.

If he's released cleanly and there's no LB underneath him, fire that ball into his facemask. If he's covered underneath, throw an L1 high pass over the LB or look for something short where that LB used to be.

Hope this helps.

Re: My red zone offense sucks

One thing I've figured out is that calling a spread formation with a run will get you a goal line set for the defense inside the 5 so running is jacked. The only counter is to call a passing play and audible to a run. That fixed a lot of my redzone issues.

Have your playbook set up with viable audibles VS defensive looks. Personally, I use the Jet sweeps a lot.

Re: My red zone offense sucks

Differentiating redzone from goal line i use a lot of corner/flag routes with my number one receiver running one on one side and my te on the other. In the redzone the spaces are smaller so decisions have to be made quicker. Same as real nfl.

Re: My red zone offense sucks

Are the devs going to fix the cpu knowing your play calls or what? I get working on the AI is something they keep prolonging, but using audibles excessively to counter is not realistic.
