Sean McVay Assistant Zac Taylor Hired

For 16 years, Marvin Lewis roamed the home sidelines off the Jungle. As a matter of fact, the last time he didn't, new head man Zac Taylor was red-shirting at Wake Forest as a QB. While Zac Taylor, the player, never excelled he did lead the Butler CC Grizzlies to an 11-1 record before transferring to Nebraska and having two solid if unspectacular seasons.

After going undrafted in the 2007 NFL Draft, he went to the CFL for one season, where he served as the 4th string QB or the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He did not return for the 2008 season, opting to begin his coaching career.

His father-in-law, Mike Sherman, gave the young man his first break as assistant QB coach at Texas A&M. With stops at the University of Cincinnati, and the Miami Dolphins, he finally rolled into McVay's staff in 2017 as assistant WR coach and was promoted to QB coach in 2018.

On February 4, 2019, Taylor was hired as the Bengals 10th Head Coach, giving McVay the second branch on his coaching tree.

Bengals Preseason

4th Round pick Ryan Finley was an extremely bright spot in the Bengals Preseason earning the number 2 spot behind Andy Dalton

Zac Taylor held everything close to the vest during preseason, with most stars playing extremely limited snaps in a vanilla offense. Finley definitely was the star of the show, with 3rd year man Alex Erickson improving his status at the WR position. On defense, everything was set in camp and there are really no surprises other than Darius Phillips being listed behind on Tony McRae as the #2 weakside CB. McRae was constantly beaten, while Phillips had one only two interceptions for the Bengals in the Preseason.
