NHL 19 - Classic Teams

Hey all,

I've seen some of the reviews for NHL 20 and although some improvements have been made, I think I'm sticking with 19 for one more season. The alumni teams may sway me later on (the game would be a bargain bin purchase if I get it at all), but I think I'll press on with a few more classic teams for 19. If you have save wizard, you may be interested in some of my teams. Here's what I have so far:

1987-88 Bruins
1973-74 Bruins
1983-84 Nordiques
1985-86 Canadiens
1976-77 Canadiens
1988-89 Flames
1986-87 Oilers
1984-85 Flyers
1973-74 Flyers
1981-82 Islanders
1981-82 North Stars
1982-83 Black Hawks

I'll post updates as I add teams to the list. Not sure how many I'll do but I'll give you the heads up on any progress made.

Do yourself a favor, get NHL 20 on Black Friday or whenever you see it at 25/30 bucks. Worth it.

Yeah I may do that, Fiddy. Just don't want to recreate all these teams again.

I've been enjoying NHL20 Alumni Teams ...... really neat seeing those older players playing without helmets ! Also, it is really educational for me since I knew very little about Hockey back then and really not much more even these days ........

I looked into your Classic Rosters above but that save wizard thing was a bit too much effort for me to dive into ........

Yeah, hockey was my first love and then baseball kinda took over as my #1. I don't blame you a bit for passing on the save wizard, Don. Too pricey. I never really got to play 19 much as I was knee-deep in the team creation process. Thinking I'll get some more playing time out of it and possibly look at 20 around Ho Ho time

Re: NHL 19 - Classic Teams

I have set the lineups for the 1996-97 Red Wings and the 1977-78 Maple Leafs. I then plan to set the 1994-95 Devils and the 1991-92 Penguins. By setting lineups that means equipment, likeness and player vitals (weight, height, position etc.). I do this in a three-step process. Next, I create the team, and finally, I'll rate the players' attributes. I re-create the teams to get at the retired numbers. It'll take a few weeks to complete these squads. This will take me to 16 teams.

Looking ahead, I'm thinking the 1993-94 Rangers, 1995-96 Avs, 1970-71 Blackhawks, 1983-84 Sabres to name a few possibilities but nothing set in stone as I'm also thinking on adding a couple of teams from 2000-2009 era. I also plan on doing some the cup winning teams from 2010-2019 which won't deal with a lot of player creation.

I played NHL 19 the other night again. I was rusty as I haven't played it in months and lost to the 1976-77 Canadiens using my 1973-74 Bruins 4-3 in Play Now. I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed it as these classic teams make the experience so much better.

Re: NHL 19 - Classic Teams

I have 19 and 20. They are both good. I don’t have a savewizard but would like to replicate some of the teams you have listed here..... especially the Bruins squads (I’m from Boston), the 81-82 Islanders and the 77 Canadians. My question is how do you determine attributes? I know NHL Reference is great for name / personal info. How do your teams rate out? For instance if the 77 Canadians were great everywhere with nine hall of famers. How do they rate relative to say your Edmonton squad maybe not the best defensively but exceptional offensively. Any assistance appreciated in advance. Too bad EA forces everyone to do this manually. I have been buying there hockey game annually since before 2002. I used to use the PC editors way back when. They were great with your own boards and music.

I'm a huge Bruins fans since the days of Bobby Orr. Basically I used a ratings system from someone on here who redid the player ratings for the current players. I downloaded their spreadsheet and I just match up players from the past with players with similar attributes to current day players and adjust the ratings accordingly. It's not a perfect fix as I use my own judgment in certain areas. The teams play great though.
