I own 19 already. Is 2k20 worth a 35 dollar upgrade if you basically only do my player?

Gameplay is different in some areas. Standing layups are harder to hit. There are new badges. Ball handling is a bit different.

The customization of your MyPlayer has been improved a lot so you might like that. You can get a 99 overall much easier but badges are harder to get(you do get to have a lot more of them though, you get to pick which ones you want too).

Overall I think building your player offline is more enjoyable than last year.

You're right, it's pulling teeth building your player in 2k19. Its impossible to build a good all around player.

Two very different games,I still play 19 but I also have 20
Both setup with shady's sliders.
20 feels slower,more "lose" than 19.
I'd probably give 20 the win,but I'm heavily invested in my Myleague career so I'll keep going for a while longer.
More stats etc popping up before and during games
