Star Basketball Recruit Bo Dawson Convicted of Armed Robbery
October 15th, 2014 | by RIVALS.COM
Tuesday, South Carolina's Hillcrest High School's Star Bo Dawson was convicted on a 2013 armed robbery charge. Dawson a Senior and four-star recruit had been getting major attention from several big schools such as Kentucky, N.C State, South Carolina, and Kansas. Although Dawson was not a top recruit he was drawing major attention for his intangibles. At 6'6, 230lbs many would expect Dawson to be setting picks and posting up down low but Dawson was the promising point guard for one of the top teams in the country. Dawson has an amazing playmaking ability along with good driving skills, although his shooting is poor. It's easy to make the comparison to Magic Johnson or even Lebron James with Dawson's skillset.
However, in the courtroom, it was revealed that Dawson and two other assailants held a pawn store at gunpoint late in 2013. Witnesses say Dawson drove the getaway vehicle as his two accomplices Carson D'Angelo and Laurence Booker held the owner at gunpoint with Glock 22 handguns.
At sentencing Dawson along with his mother pleaded for him to receive a second chance. Several members of the community including local pastor Michael Aguero stood up for Dawson's character. However, the judge didn't hear the pleas sentencing the eighteen-year-old to five years in prison. Dawson had been averaging nearly a triple-double on the season with twenty-one points, eight rebounds and elven assists a game.
Is the basketball future of Bo Dawson over? Only time will tell.
