Body front kick/body side kick imbalance?

Hope this hasn't been discussed in depth elsewhere on this forum, but since the update that removed the ability to catch side kicks to the body, has that created imbalance with kicks used to push the opponent back and create space?

Why would I ever use the body front kick instead of the body side kick, unless the former is a far higher level move for the fighter I have? As far as I can tell, they have the exact same properties, except one can be caught and punished, and the other can't.

I'm not complaining, for the record. I use Stephen Thompson mainly, which means I spam the hell out of body side kicks like they're jabs. Just thinking about this and honestly wondering if it's maybe unfair to the advantage of players like myself.

It's very annoying.

Great, now I get to spam sidestep.

Fun times. Good gameplay.

Front kick is better for interceptions

He means that the standard front kick is better to stop someone from coming in throwing strikes.

However, that isn't the case as the side kick has built in strike deflection when the knee is chambered on the start up animation. I don't know if this is intentional or not as a lot of strikes look weird on the hit detection with the leg that is side kicking.

I can see the regular front kick to the face being better than the side kick to the head though.

All I know is that anybody who misses a spinning body kick and gets hit with a counter power shot to the head mid animation should result in an amputation. Ultimate team would play out much different. It would be like game of thrones for a couple weeks.

Front kick option selects into a knee. So up close or far its very effective. I can minor dash forward when sidekick is thrown and cancel the hit reaction

Eh, no.

I use the regular body front kick as much as I would use the side kick.

The rear body front kick doesn't take as long as the side kick to execute when thrown planted, and it's easier to sneak in while in kicking range or step kick range. Think you and your opponent just finished exchanging punches, he steps out and tries to step in, likely his short term stam isn't fully recovered you, you throw in that stabbing body front kick and it does a good amount of body damage and LT Stam damage.

The most recent example of this that I can recall is Usman vs Colby, he used those teeps BEAUTIFULLY similar to the way I described.

Side kicks can be side stepped or lunged easier than the planted rear body front kick, and if you time the block correctly it DOES NOT push you back. Heck, even simply circling can cause the side kick to miss.

Some of the higher level MT guys can combo their lead body teeps btw
