The teams split the season series last year with Utah winning the first two meetings and Seattle taking the last two. Number two overall pick Kevin Durant will make his NBA debut. Durant is the only freshman to be named the college player of the year as he averaged 25.8 ppg and 11.1 rpg.

Sonics Shock Jazz
Kevin Durant leads Seattle to win in NBA debut

Associated Press
Oct. 23, 2007
SEATTLE -- The future is filled with uncertainty for the Seattle Supersonics, at least when it comes to where the team will be playing it's games after this season.

What is certain for now is that the team remains in Seattle and Kevin Durant looks ready to live up the hype that comes with being the number two overall pick and the only freshman to ever be named player of the year in college basketball.

Durant made his NBA debut Wednesday night, scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds as he led the Supersonics to an opening night win over the Utah Jazz 101-94.

After falling behind 29-19 at the end of the first quarter Durant led the Sonics on a run to end the half to cut the deficit to just one at 47-46, and finished with 17 first half points.

Utah managed to control the 3rd quarter but Deron Williams struggled throughout the final quarter as the Sonics rallied to outscore the Jazz 32-18 and take home the win.

Williams finished with 15 points and 8 assist but shot just 7 for 21 and missed all 4 three point attempts. Mehmet Our led the Jazz with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

It wasn't just the Kevin Durant show for Seattle. Earl Watson had 14 points, 3 assists and Damien Wilkins added 13.

The Sonics head out on a four game trip that starts with a visit to the Golden State Warriors on Friday.

Oct. 25, 2007 Seattle Supersonics @ Golden State Warriors

Rookies lead Sonics to 2-0 Start
Kevin Durant scored 24 and Jeff Green added 16 as Seattle remains unbeaten

Associated Press
Oct. 25, 2007
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Monta Ellis sat in the Warriors locker room after having guarded Kevin Durant for the first time. His reward: a bag of ice on each of his knee's.

"He's a long ... ," the Golden State guard said of Durant, chuckling while still on his back getting stretched.

Durant matched his scoring output from his debut with 24 points and fellow rookie Jeff Green added 16 points in 20 minutes off the Sonics bench as Seattle got off to a 2-0 start to the season with a 101-94 win over the Warriors.

"Oh, he ain't shy to put that thing up," said Baron Davis, who had 31 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and the good fortune of rarely guarding Durant.

"He's a LONG guy."

For most of the game it looked like Warriors would walk away with the victory having only trailed by 2 after the first quarter and leading from that point on. That is until the last few minutes of the fourth quarter.

After having scored just 6 first half points, Durant exploded for 18 in the second half and 12 points in the final quarter.

"They controlled the game. We just kind of locked down there for that three-, four-, five-minute stretch," Seattle coach P.J. Carlesimo said after the game.

Durant, who said he is seeing fewer double-teams in the NBA than he saw last season at Texas while becoming the national college player of the year, made a finger roll layup 4:15 left to Seattle an 81-80 lead that would never relinquish.

The Sonics will have a day off before continuing their road trip Saturday night in San Antonio where they will face their toughest test of young season in Tim Duncan and the Spurs.
