Having pitchers pitch longer than 6 innings?

I'm playing on HOF and man is it difficult to get SP's longer than 6 at the most.

First off, the first inning or two is the most difficult to get the pitcher in rhythm. On average I might have a first inning going 16-20 pitches and then if they don't give up any runs they gain confidence.

Second, when the stamina meter starts to hit yellow they get REALLY erratic and start throwing beachballs to the hitter. This usually happens in the late 5th or early 6th (85+ pitches).

There's also usually at least an at bat or two per game where the hitter goes through a 8+ pitch at bat.

I find myself constantly only using SP's for 5 innings (6 if they're pitching incredible) and using RP's for the other innings. This is w a rotation of all 85+ overall pitchers

do people have tips on how to have SP's last longer?

First things first. What are your pitcher stamina sliders set at?

6 innings for a starter is pretty normal in baseball now.

5.2 IP was league average last year for starters

I feel like stamina needs to be re-thought in this game, starting pitchers shouldn’t struggle to throw 100 pitches. It’s like they look at two guys and see pitcher A averages 6.1 innings per start IRL and pitcher B averages 5.1 per start, so pitcher A must have better stamina in reality pitcher is is just more efficient with his pitches or a better overall pitcher. It frustrates me when I have a starter tired after 70 pitches

Reading through the edited OP.
If you're throwing 85+ pitches per start, I'd say that's about on par. In my experience, when the STA bar hits yellow they're at or past their STA (effective pitch count). Loss of command is expected in that case. As far as the 8+ pitch at bat goes you just need to expand the zone more, then come back in quicker. If he fouls 2 or 3 off, make better adjustments or don't listen to your catcher.

How much pitch energy are you using? If you use less energy per pitch your stamina will not drain as much. Only use high energy for more tense pitch situations.
