Face makers.. I need help.

I'm currently working on a college roster where all the team is either players ON or USED to be on each college's roster.

I SUCK at faces. Other then practicing what advise could you give a newbie?

Thanks in advance.

Get good pictures of the players. A front shot and a profile shot. Make sure they're not smiling. This takes work and you won't always find perfect pictures to work off of. Do the best you can. Try to minimize the amount of pictures per player if you try to blend multiple pictures it's harder.
Make a few CAPs and get better on each one. Practice.
Use reference points on the face pictures for example: where does the end of his nose sit compared to the bottom of his ears, how wide is the mouth compared to nose width or eye spacing. Find the reference points that work for you.

I'm pretty new to it also. I've made about 10 CAPs but these tips have been most helpful. Over those 10 I've improved by a lot and have some CAPs I'm happy with already. It takes some patience but it's really satisfying when the face starts to resemble the player.

Re: Face makers.. I need help.

Selecting the right template is important. I look at the contour of the chin and overall shape of the head, as these features cannot be changed as drastically as the nose, eyes, or mouth.

I start with the most defining feature of the face and try to get that right, and then work to the others from there. You may need to cycle back through the features and make minor adjustments as you change other things.

The more you fine tune, the more you'll see in the photograph you can fix. Will take longer in the beginning but as you learn it'll get quicker.

I'd give myself a C/C+ on it, and I have ZERO artistic ability. If I can do it, anyone can.
