Help with "Upgrade Player" & the new Depth Chart positions

First of all I don't buy the new Madden every year, I average getting it every 3 years so these things may not be new this year as I just came from Madden 18. Secondly I have tried to find this info withing the forum and elsewhere and have failed to find what i'm looking for. So i'd appreciate either explanation here, or just give me a link I can go to, either way is fine. Thanks

1) What is up with the Upgrade Players? I'm used to viewing all my players and spending XP points on whichever attribute I wanted & had enough for. Now it shows the 3 options, doesn't tell you what you're upgrading until you've spent the point you have, and I only can upgrade 4 players.


2) Need explanation on how all the new depth chart positions work. Once again, I just came from 18, did not play 19 or 20, so these positions may not be new this year but they were not in 18 or earlier.

As far as the defensive side of the ball goes the RLE,RLE,RDT,SUBLB and SLC are mainly for the Nickel package and 3rd down pass rushing situations as far as I know.

The offensive side of the ball is pretty self explanatory. SLWR is the only tricky spot, that player will see more reps than WR3 if it is someone different than WR3. I set the true slot receiver for each team at that position and typically have the rotational wide outs at WR3.

Upgrading players is based on Archetype. Most are self explanatory. Upgrading Man to Man corners prioritizes Man Coverage skill with a chance to get physical upgrades for speed or acceleration.

The new depth chart positions are mostly specialist positions. Slot WR sets which WR you want in the slot. Sub Linebacker will be the defender you want on nickel and dime packages playing the linebacker role. It can be a safety as well.
