Today, after weeks of back and fourth bidding the NBA announced to two new franchises joining the NBA, Seattle and Lousiville. Just half a year ago, this seemed improbable but after the coronavirus and lost revenue the NBA decided the best solution to make up for lost revenue was expansion.

This was not without heavy debate, as the vote only passed 20-10 in favor of expansion. The Maverick's Mark Cuban led the opposition to expanding the league.

At the start of the bidding, almost everyone expected the two teams to be Seattle and Las Vegas. Seattle was almost a certain lock to get a franchise, but the second team, that was the one that kept NBA writers up late at night. Vegas was the clear favorite, but the sudden announcement caught many probable buyers off guard.

This led to a surprising move where an investment group led by Dan Issel a former NBA player who played for the University of Kentucky along with being a member of the ABA's Lousiville Colonels, received the winning bid. For the basketball-crazed state of Kentucky, this is a massive win. Fans have been gathering outside the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville all morning celebrating their new team.

For Seattle, it was almost a sure thing that the city was getting a team. Who would be the owner, was the major question. In the end, Chris R. Hansen the man who almost moved the Kings to Seattle was able to finally seal the deal, bringing a team to his home city. Similar scenes to Louisville were seen at the Key Arena in Seattle. For the fans, this is a long-awaited victory.

This will be far the most difficult expansion ever undertaken for both teams, however. Part of the deal with the NBA will mean that teams are expected to start playing THIS season, this means that unlike all previous expansions both franchises will not be in the NBA draft or able to sign any top-tier free agents.

The fans better be excited to have their teams because the play on the court won't be too exciting for the foreseeable future.

Re: Buckets of Chicken and Basketball's

Overview:

First off, I want to apologize to those following my Charlotte Bobcats dynasty. A friend of mine bought me NBA2k21 for PS4 and although the game is practically the same as 2k20, I wanted to use it anyways.

This dynasty will follow the Kentucky Colonels, the NBA's newest expansion franchise. We'll be in an alternative universe the NBA bubble occurred in May instead of August and the NBA panicked fearing financial losses opting for a sudden expansion. All NBA moves up to the date of 2/15/20 will of occurred during the offseason in this timeline, so James Harden will be on the Nets for example.

NBA Expansion Draft Announced

Expansion Teams will Pick Through Scrap Heap

NEW YORK -- The league office came out with the rules and date today for the upcoming expansion draft. This will be the 12th expansion draft in NBA history, but the first where the team's coming into the expansion draft will not be participating in the NBA draft.

This means that these picks will mean that much more, as both the Seattle and Louisville franchise won't be getting their hands on any real young talent until after the season.

All 30 NBA teams will be allowed to protect ten players, along with only one player being allowed to be drafted from each team, rookies cannot be selected and the first pick in the draft will be decided by a coin flip. The format will then be in the traditional draft format.

There is an interesting mix of talent that will be available, as if a team wants they could get veteran talent in Garry Harris, Dwight Howard. This could help to draw fans in early on and be a way of having veteran leadership on the team.

There are also players like Justice Winslow and Jabari Parker. NBA draft busts still looking to find a way to shine long term on an NBA team.

Some teams to watch are the Magic, Pelicans, Celtics, Hawks, and Timberwolves. All of these teams have an abundance of young talent or players that may require protection. Could Mo Bamba be available? What about Jarred Vanderbilt?

The expansion draft is scheduled for August 30th, so teams will have just over a month to hire a front office and prepare for the draft.

Glad you're excited, your Grizzlies dynasty definitely inspired me a lot here. We'll definitely see the Kentucky, Louisville connection during this dynasty.
