I've had this happen with several post players. Rather than backing down, they dribble out of the post and then take an awkward pull up.

What tendency can be decreased to stop this occurrence

Aggressive Backdown is what causes a player to pound the paint / back down their defender. In the case of Domantas Sabonis, he probably has higher contested Mid-range tendencies than he should. The AI also looks at various ratings to determine whether something is a "good" shot or not. Tendencies are only one aspect of the AI's decision-making.
