Problems stealing

Has anyone had an issue where they try to steal with a runner at 1st or 2nd and the base stealer rounds the base you are attempting to steal and heads for the next base? It’s happened numerous times to me in DD and I can’t figure out why they are doing this? I hit the trigger up so I try to slide head first but they still sometimes round the base and head for the next one. Help! Thanks!!

Done it to me. I sometimes try to get an extra lead before the pitch. I assume I hit l1 or whatever for a lead too late after he has already taken off
