AlTito's NHL 22 Sliders

Hey everyone! Yes, I'm back at it again...

Below are the sliders I use right now in NHL 22. As always, I try to get a good mix of fun and realism, with a sloppy gameplay and a lot of loose pucks. I will be making tweaks while I continue playing and I will try to keep this post as updated as possible to reflect the changes I make.

You can choose between Superstar and All-Star difficulty, depending of your skill level. I suggest you to start with CPU Difficulty Adjustment at 0, but if it becomes too easy, you may increase it by a few clicks. You can play these sliders on 6 to 8 minutes periods, but I suggest you to play 8 minutes if you want to get more realistic stats.

Don't be afraid to adjust things to your liking or needs, these sliders are only there as a base. Have fun!

Re: AlTito's NHL 22 Sliders

A lot of testing today and messing around with a few sliders. You will see many changes in the log, some of them were rolled back, others will stay, at least for now.

I love the game so far on Xbox Series. Graphics are great, but the gameplay is obviously the main focus point for me. Sticks collisions are a huge upgrade, I think I was asking for it for 10 years now lol. They are still not perfect, but they are way better and it changes the game a lot, in a good way. The default pace is also better, so I decided to start with game speed at 3 instead of 2 this year. The puck is looser too, which is a great thing.

One thing I still have trouble with is passing %. I was always able to have it between 70 and 79 for both teams, but this year, it's pretty hard to get. The CPU is still really accurate with its passes (in the high 80s or low 90s), even with pass accuracy at 0. We can easily make the passes to bobble more, but I don't want it to be too much either, especially since the passing % stays pretty high. It's definitely one area I still have work to do, trying to find the sweet spot.

Re: AlTito's NHL 22 Sliders

Hey Al, was just coming on to get your thoughts on the game. I'm liking it a lot too but was reading so many mixed impressions I wasn't sure if I was just being too optimistic.

I've been using your sliders for years with the odd tweaks...one issue I'm having is lack of CPU penalties for the opposition...I bumped it to 100 but haven't seen much improvement, albeit in a small sample size.

I think I may have to bump some of the specific penalties for the cpu up a bit.

I'm surprised you never have this issue, maybe it's play style.

Re: AlTito's NHL 22 Sliders

Thank you for these. Early impressions:

I'm finding it VERY difficult to score. I've been playing this game since 93 so I know my way around, but just not happening for me yet. Maybe I'm getting old and need to drop a skill level!

I have upped the pass reception ease on mine because I was finding it infuriating having my players mis-control a pass almost every time. I like it loose, but basic passes between D-men being mishandled and destroying any momentum I was building was driving me round the bend.

Hits seem a little high from my team, into the 30s, so might look at that.

I might just drop the game speed down to 2, see how that feels. I think that will help with my lack of control of the game and also drop the number of hits down a touch.

Thanks again though. It's a great start. I've given up at least two goals because I lost concentration while looking at the pretty ice

Something I was always curious about. The goalie screen slider… is the user slider for your goalie or is it how well you screen the cpu goalie?

Human slider is for your goalie.

Re: AlTito's NHL 22 Sliders

I made other changes today, mostly to passing, checking and penalties sections. Passing and penalties are my focus right now. I'm still not fully satisfied with passing and I do a lot of testing.

However, I think that I found the reason why passing % is so high this year. It looks like they changed the way it's calculated. In years past, I'm pretty sure they were only counting clean passes as completed ones. This year, even bobbled passes are counting as completed, you have to entirely miss the player to get an incomplete pass.

I made a test where I put all CPU's passing sliders over the top, just to see what would happen. CPU's players were bobbling passes or getting pucks in their skates all over the ice and weren't able to complete a clean pass. After a few minutes, I paused the game and CPU's pass % was in the high 90s (I think 97 or something like that).

So, with the way passing % seems to be calculated this year and the fact that CPU players are still pretty accurate even with CPU's passing accuracy at 0, it sounds like it will be hard to make the pass % to come down. I saw times where, after a few minutes, the CPU were in the low 70s, but they always seem to finish the game in the 80s nevertheless. Passing % is only a number though, so if gameplay on the ice feels right, it's all good I guess.
