Some defensive tips for an old man please

Hello All

Maybe I am just getting to old to be good at this hockey game but could use some tips on how to set up my D and win. I have played 19 games now using Alt's sliders and have not won a single game. I am giving up about 6 goals per game almost all of them from the CPU just getting down low in the slot and ripping one home. Any idea what settings I can use to get my defenders to force them out of the areas close to the goalie so I am not giving up so many goals?

adjusting to a 1-4 zone occasionally, staying in front of the puck, don't chase loose pucks into corners if you think you'll get beat to it. All some things that have helped me.

Let them come to you. As @scoresman143 said, don't chase.

It might not be something that you're doing, but I find I give up a lot more when I try to throw the body around a bunch. It pulls me out of position, and the CPU rarely makes a bad pass. It's far more efficient to sit back and cut off the passing lanes. If you do that, you'll keep them to the outside, and let up a lot less high quality/danger zone shots.

I do find that when I actually focus on the defensive aspects of the game, and don't worry so much about offence, I'm far more efficient. I'd rather lose a 2-1 game than an 8-6 game.

Hope this helps!

I'm an old guy too (60), a Seinager. I try to only change players once or twice on Defense. It's hockey so the puck is going to find you. Sometimes I'll control one of my wingers high and when the computer takes control of the puck, I have an idea where he is for the outlet pass. If I need a win I will also drop from All-Star to Pro. I also have an alternative set of Alt's sliders that slightly favor me on All-Star.

Play position LOCK and play your position.

Re: Some defensive tips for an old man please

It's all in the sliders. Try this experiment:

Game Speed 2/6
Attribution Effect 10/10
Puck Carrier Agility - HUM (0) CPU (0)
Puck Carrier Skating - HUM (20) CPU (20)
Skating Agility - HUM (100) CPU (100)
Skating Speed - HUM (31) CPU (31)

Turn all of the AI learning values to 0/6.

I just tested this out this evening and it has made a world of difference for me. The issue with the game is that the puck carrier, CPU or HUM, can stop on a dime and drive towards the net. Making the puck carrier agility 0 and the defenders/skater agility 100 almost entirely negates this. Let me know how it goes for you.
