HELP with SMB4 please!

My buddies and I are new to the SMB series. We all live in different states. Is there any mode (season?) where all three of us can control a team and play against each other? I thought Season did, but the setup is so confusing.

I'm more of an offline player. But sadly there is no "online franchise" in the traditional sense. (For example- 30 teams in the league - 3 user controlled teams and the rest are CPU).

From my knowledge you can do "online league" where you all control a team - however only USER controlled teams will be in the league. Literally a 3 team league (pending how many friends you have that play the game). This is one feature I was hoping would be added, but it wasn't.

You could probably find some players looking to start up an all user league on the forums, but that's all the help I can give.
