Playing on hard in Career mode. Lost a lot of matches, but when my player got enough XP, I'm starting winning matches. Currently in master tourneys.

I play on hard. Anything less is just too easy (and I'm by no means a super-skilled joypad jockey). On hard, opponents close to my level give me a challenge, but not in a way that feels like the AI is cheating.

LVL 18, in my 2nd season at the moment (played a lot of exhibitions). FINALLY started getting a few aces after last level up. Currently in the Barcelona Masters tourney, about to face Djokevik (sp?). I love the career mode, but I remember the original top spin (or was it part 2?) where you leveled up specific areas individually. I don't want to rely on a certain coach for a great serve and lose it when I go to another. I wanna max something and leave something else alone, and vice versa.

Should download automatically if your console is connected online. If not, try clearing your cache. It'll pop up as a prompt when the game is starting.

There was only one main patch, that's what you're linking to. The rest were balancing updates that are different from patches but similar to the tuner sets used by NCAA in the past. You have to be connected online to download them.
