Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 Impressions Thread

This game doesn't seem to have the hype around it like the Smackdown games of the past. Just curious if anyone picked it up since it dropped today, and if so could they post their impressions here. I'll probably break down and get it tomorrow.

Re: Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 Impressions Thread

I have this game, and let me tell you, it is by far the best wrestling game to hit the U.S. since No Mercy.

Everything that graphic was hyped about in the other thread, is better than you could imagine. The great thing is they slowed down the pace (FINALLY), so it adds another fun element of creating a ppv and having the major titles up for grab in two player mode, while at the same time capturing a realsitic apce to the matches.

One HUGE improvement in my eyes, is the drama to the finishes. Not every match feels the same, not every match will end after a finisher, far from it. I had a match where I was kurt angle vs batista andit took three batista bombs to finally put me down, I kept coming back, it was an 18 minute match on the NORMAL skill level, where we were both bleeding, and the crowd was going nuts.
The crowd erupted as i was defeated, It was great.

Obviously, by that description, the crowd gets into every move big time. If you are like john cena and you have 3 moves, you will be limited in your crowd reacitons. they like to see variations.

The stamina bar is sweet now because after a few batista powerslams and bigtime moves, as he is not exactly a cruiserweight, he can get tired, so if your a wrestler like HBK, and you can weather the storm, you have a better chance at pulling out a W and gaining more on your momentum meter late in a match than say a batista or HHH would.

While I have only scratched the surface of the GM Mode, it seems nice. I really like how the show gets final ratings, and each match is rated, and the crowd is BY Fr MORE INTO THE gm mdoe matches as they are the exhibition matches, which i thought was nice. There is great customization with setting up rivalries, which can obviosuly lead to bigtime feuds and high profile matches. Being able to customize the rosters for the show of your choice is huge. However, you are only given x numebr of dollars, so it might be better to only take a few big names until you can build up the bank roll and then go from there with free agents and whatnot.

As I am sure people have read, the graphics are about as good as it gets on the PS2 IMO. They are god is war like. That combined with the new gameplay speed, very deep roster, great sound, this game is definately worth the price.

The replay factor I think will be very long given the fact that there is so many different types of matches, and the fact that we can finally defend titles in exhibition, and have the belet assigned to a WWE superstar, and not just a memory card.

Good stuff so far, I think any fan of wrestling has to pick this badboy up.

WWE and THQ really nailed this one.

Re: Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 Impressions Thread

Great, great game. Best graphics by any WWE game on any system IMO. And GM Mode, awesome! I played with that for 4 hours last night. I love making feuds, run in's, etc. Nothing like running your own show. My only gripe on GM mode, there isn't a champion list, like it doesn't have who else has held the belt besides the current champ. Other than that, it's perfect. I would give it a solid 9.5/10. Best wrestling game since the N64 easily, and this might even trump No Mercy.

Please, I loved No Mercy just as much as the next guy, but HCTP was definitely better and the best wrestling game to date. I planned on getting SvR 2006 yesterday after school, but sprained my ankle real bad and can't get it until next week probably .

Re: Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 Impressions Thread

the only gripe that i have with the game is the fact that i can't unlock Jake the snake unless i link up to the psp version of the game. Other than that annoying factor its quite simply the best wrestling game to date. Don't believe me, read the above review by railstone. Great review!
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Actually, I was looking around Gamefaqs earlier, and some guy said that all you have to do to unlock Jake without a PSP is finish a year in GM Mode. You then get to pick three guys to add to your roster I guess, in which you can pick Jake, which unlocks him. It supposedly works.

is it true you can only play season mode with certain wrestlers because of their voice -overs? I've read where you cant use guys like Eugune or Paul London in season mode. Any truth?
