Re: New Japan Pro Wrestling Discussion

Watched most of Night 1. Will have to check out a few of those Night 2 matches. It's still the strangest thing to have 12k people in the Tokyo Dome and have it be quiet enough to hear a pin drop for long stretches. Night 2 was 6k apparently. Smh. Still the best wrestling in the world, but things are gonna have to change.

Re: New Japan Pro Wrestling Discussion

I still don't understand why they feel the need to do two nights (technically three nights this year) for the sake of it. It would make sense if it's the weekend, but NJPW has historically run a show at the Tokyo Dome on January 4th since 1992, no matter what day of the week it is.

As for quiet enough to hear a pin drop...that's just the Japanese culture. They sit on their hands and just enjoy the spectacle like it's a theater show.

They do normally, but throughout the pandemic they haven't even been allowed to cheer or boo or chant or anything except clap. Those are actual rules. There's hope that that will change at some point this year.

And the sound of these dome shows was strange because normally there would be people from the top down outside of just the bottom bowl. Having all those empty seats created an echo, as if they were fighting in front of literally no one. The loudest reaction was when Tanahashi jumped off a huge ladder and the crowd couldn't help but gasp.

Re: New Japan Pro Wrestling Discussion

So, Jay White and Gallows/Anderson showed up at the Dontaku show in Japan last night, and Wheeler Yuta is in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament coming up.

All good stuff, expect the crowds are still dead silent aside from some clapping. Those crowds may never come back. The culture over there is such that even if/when they change the rules and let the audience yell they still might not. The wrestling is still high level, but the energy isn't there.

Juice Robinson joining Bullet Club was pretty unexpected. Nice job by him using the dirt sheets to help make his surprise more impactful.
