Probably kept him because of his 3rd generation status, and the fact that he seemed to be a good guy to train with. I think Rock, Goldberg and Lesnar have trained with him in the past.


Looking at the current main rosters, theres nobody who stands out as someone that could be on the list of future releases outside of Lars. Even the ones like Ruby, Bo, Benjamin, Gable, Kane, Lana are probably closest names to ones who could be gone if absolutely needed, but I dont see it (except Kane, if they're still paying him. He could be gone and brought back later on a legends deal, seeing how he's obviously not gonna be doing anything outside of 1 offs for foreseeable future)
