Help with WWE2K15

Hi guys. I need some help with this game. So a little background here. I grew up watching wrestling and haven't watched in a long time, maybe 10-12 years. I catch it on every now and then bit I basically don't know the new guys except for the big names. I used to play wrestling games ALL the time. Among my favorites were No Mercy, Attitude, and the Smack Downs. Also some WCW games but those weren't as good to me. The newest wrestling game I've played was WWF Raw for the original Xbox. It was crap.

Here's where I need help. I wanted to try out one of the 2k games, so I rented 2k15. What the heck is this Universe mode all about? I honestly wanted to just pick a wrestler and begin a career with that wrestler. I understand the full control of booking matches and stuff, but there was no story line on there that I could follow. Is there something I'm missing? I honestly gave it a try but I just couldn't get into it without having a set character where I'm just The Rock and there are cut scenes and things involving me and my story.

Is there a way to do this or am I missing something or what?

Universe is simply that...a simulation of a wwe universe. It books matches and you can play whatever you want or sim matches when you want. There isn't really an option to just use one character and do things and there hasn't really been for years now.

The closest to what you are looking for is the NXT mode on PS4 and XBoxOne but you start at the bottom and work your way up. Its okay but not great.
