Every year, when the weather makes it look like spring will never come, i like to head to the store and see if baseball cards are out yet...

Today I bought a couple of packs of Topps 2011 Series One - apparently they arrived in stores today! It was good to see some baseball players - I only got one Met though... Jason Bay (he HAS to have a better 2011, right? Right?!?) -

Anyway, does anyone else out there buy baseball cards anymore? I feel like it is so much different ... Read More

If you haven't had a chance to check it out, or perhaps are intrigued by the upcoming TW12: The Masters upcoming release, stop by the Golf forum (in Other Sports) and check out our OS Golf League.

Last fall we put together a 10-week season, and are looking to put some events together for the winter as we lead into the new game release.

We use the True-Aim feature, and play on Tour Pro difficulty, which really makes the game as "sim" as you can get (though we are not masochistic ... Read More

took a 3-month break from OS...

recently got Fifa11 - so that will be my game of choice for awhile...

any thoughts about where to start?

oh, and my current sports thoughts:

Jets are just not good enough... probably SHOULD beat Chiefs, but New England is just too good - probably for ANYBODY in the AFC...

Rutgers Football - horrendous end to the season, but honestly they were just not good enough this year... not Schiano's ... Read More

Well, every newspaper in central Jersey is killing the effort by Rutgers last night, a 31-0 victory over FCS foe Norfolk State. The game was 6-0 at halftime, thanks in part to a gift field goal as time (should have) expired in the second quarter.

Taking a look at the game, though, there are positives. Number one, they didn't freakin' lose!!! I was in the stands for the lost to New Hampshire several years ago - one game after defeating Michigan State on opening day... and at least ... Read More

This goes back a few years (and you DO have to take into account that I am a Mets fan), but the Atlanta Braves make me sick.

Here they are, in first place again, after their sheer domination of the NL East was interrupted by the Phillies for a few years. And look around the stadium tonight... NO ONE is there!!!

How can you call yourself a major league sports city? And this was true during their "dynasty" years as well - especially late in the run. Empty seats for playoff ... Read More

I am watching the HBO presentation of "Barbaro" - a one hour special on the events surrounding his Derby win, his Preakness breakdown, and the entire emotional journey that America followed for the next eight months.

It is a tremendous presentation of a moment in sports that is truly hard to describe, if you weren't "there" at the time.

I love horse racing, and am often amazed at the grip that a racehorse can have on the sporting public.

If you like to read, ... Read More

Watching the HBO Real sports tonight - two amazing stories that everyone should check out.

I'm not a huge fan of this program, but got caught up right away by the story on ALS - Lou Gehrig's Disease and concussions. A wild look at the connection between the two, this is worth watching for anyone who plays sports.

Followed by this is a story of Bobby Tolan, a young african american man who is shot in his driveway by the police. Amazing, and scary story.

first thing to be said: this was a brutal football game to watch. i actually DVR'd it, and watched when i got home late last night. after watching the first half, i had no problem falling asleep!

grades:

Sanchez: C-, did not look like an NFL quarterback. looked like a backup. maybe his line was the problem, he was under some pressure. maybe Carolina's defense is deserving of credit. but make no mistake, the Sanch-ize looked erratic, at best...

Tomlinson: ... Read More

Sanchez: A-, Normally I would take off more for the pick-6 on his first pass, but i'm giving him a break since he looked so good afterwards. I know the INT was deflected, but it was still an awful choice and an awful pass. He ran a smooth offense otherwise, and looked like he has taken a step forward. Anyone remember that pre-season game against the Ravens last year???

Greene: A-, Only 5 carries and 1 catch, but perhaps that is best for the guy I'm hoping will become the feature back ... Read More

The leaders have just teed off on the first hole, beginning their final round.

Nick Watney and Dustin Johnson are your final pair, with Rory McIlroy just behind.

How do you think they are going to do today?

This is the dawn of a new generation of golfers - the post-Tiger era is being played out right before our eyes.

Phil is out there shooting the lights out - probably going to record the best round of the day (-7 overall after 15) - but ... Read More

Near no-hitter tonight, and his dream season continues.

I know it's probably too late for my Mets to mount a charge, and blogging about them seems an equally lost cause, but Dickey's season raises an interesting question:

Can a knuckleballer, at 35, begin a worthwhile pitching career?

Dickey is a free-agent at the end of the season, i believe. Would you sign him? And for what?

I think this guy - a lifetime journeyman - has earned himself a ... Read More

it's nice to see some passion in baseball.

i watch the Mets. emotionless Carlos Beltran is our leader. Jose Reyes is just plain batty.

it's nice to put on sportscenter and see two teams fighting for first that are dying to win, and simply dying to beat each other...

i am torn here.

as a Jet fan, we need the damn guy in there! but i also understand that they just can't "blank check" him, which i kinda think is what he is asking for...

i fully believe he'll be in there by week 1 - and how much does the pre-season matter anyway...

i just hate that there is this lingering "future excuse" out there - like an ominous sign that every Jet fan understands ALWAYS acts as a harbinger to some significant injury or other disaster ... Read More

It's quite simple, really.

After botching the "apology" press conference, Tiger Woods' PR machine headed back to the bunker. There, they hatched a plan.

Tiger Woods, otherworldly in his golf ability - seemingly able to transcend human fallibility on the course - had the ugliest of humankinds fall-from-grace.

To return, he would need to re-create himself. And NOT, as he told us in press conference, as a man who wouldn't behave as badly or curse as much on ... Read More
