Perez Pitches Rangers Past A's

Texas lefty Martin Perez turned in his second straight quality start in Wednesday's series finale at Oakland, pitching into the eighth inning and scattering three hits with no walks as the Rangers clinched their second straight AL West Division series victory with a 3-2 win over the A's at Oakland Colesium.

Perez struck out three and retired the first 15 batters he faced in a row before finally giving up a leadoff single to Adam Rosales in the sixth inning to lose the perfect game bid. Single runs by the Rangers in the third and fifth innings gave them a 2-0 advantage, but it was Rougned Odor's eigth-inning 400-foot shot to the right-center field bleachers that gave Texas all it needed, making it 3-1 at the time.

The A's had the tying run on base in both the eigth and ninth innings, but relievers Matt Bush (hold) and Sam Dyson (save) helped get Perez his second straight victory.

The Rangers return to Arlington to host the Kansas City Royals in a four-game series starting Thursday.
