2017 DRAFT
Posted on August 12, 2017 at 04:20 AM.
The draft is the way we'd like to build our team. This first season is going to be difficult as we have the 18th pick and there will be no sure fire players left at that point. This first season is going to require our scouting department to pull through.

When looking at our roster we have a lot of needs.
SP: 19/15 four players signed next season. 3 not coming back
RP: 21/15 one signed next season 11-12 not coming back
CP: 2/3 both returning
C: 6/6 all 1 yr deals, 2-3 not returning
1B: 4/3 Only V Mart signed 1 for sure returning
2B: 5/3 all 1 yr all up for grabls
3B: 6/3 only Miggy signed 2 not returning
SS: 9/3 all 1 yr 2-3 not returning
LF: 6/3 only Upton signed 4 not returning
CF: 6/3 5 1yr deals (Collins) all could return
RF: 6/3 all 1yr 2 not returning

The best players available is 1B Kevin Calero 21-50-80 who is not a big time power hitter for a corner position. Seems like a reach.
RP Ray Kapotic 22-65-80 a RH who doesn't throw hard, or LF Jame Babcock 19-65-80 a LH bat who can hit for contact with a decent arm.
We go with Babcock. We can make him a 1B if necessary but we also have Miggy signed for 7 years.

SP Kenny Kinney 18-65-80 is there and so he is the easy pick. I'll get RP later.

It comes down to LHRP Hideki Kojima 18-65-80-2019 vs CLeo Ramiro 19-70-80-2018, a great defensive C.
I really need Rp but I also need C. I can't pass up a guy that could be a stud C. Ramiro is the pick.

Kojima is still there. He is the pick.

There are 10 players left that are 80 potential. A few are Rp and the best is Bryan Gomes 18-65-80-2020 he is an injury risk but he is also a high upside guy. CF Bartolo Lopez is an option but I am desperate for RP now.

Lopez goes 26 to Boston. There are no 80's left and it comes down to SP Ray Aubrey 18-70-75-2018 vs LHRP Irving Liles 20-70-75-18
I decide to go with Liles just for depth. This will allow me to let go of a lot of older RP.

Aubrey goes #3 to CIN in 7th. The only player left, literally, is LHSP Fernando Santos 22-45-60-21+ from KY

Overall, we had a solid depth draft. We got RP depth and a good hitter in Babcock.
