Torino 2006 Review (Xbox)

We have just posted our Torino 2006 review. Find out what Chris Sullivan has to say about it.

"Every four years, the world's best at their respective sport gather for the Olympics. Torino, Italy is the site of this year's games, and I was ecstatic when I was presented with the opportunity to review 2K Games' foray into multi-sport competition. With classics in the past, such as Track and Field and California Games, does Torino 2006 live up to the Olympic sized-hype? I was anxious to find out."

Man that's disappointing. Olympic games used to be so fun when you had your buddies over and just mashed buttons for a couple of hours. How hard would it be to make a half decent game like this? I don't know if a decent Olympic game even exists on current gen hardware.

Man, those were the days. I forget the name of the Atari 2600 game, where you wiggle the joystick back and forth for speed, then hit the button to jump.

The 1500 meter run, I think it was, that absolutely killed me. It's amazing how fun that game was when you really think about it.

Was the arcade game at that time called Track & Field? I remember hitting those buttons until my hands hurt. Do you think the problem is that 2K is putting out an Olympics game just for the sakes of putting out an Olympics game?

Yes it was. 2nd event was the long jump... and I'll always remember that 42 degrees was the perfect angle to make the qualifying distance.

Sure - it'll be bought for all of two weeks. No one's heading into the store two weeks from now and buying an Olympic game.

How cool would a 360 Live Marketplace game of old-school Olympic arcade stuff have been?

If this game had Curling, I might consider getting it. Might.

I don't know why, but that game seems kind of fun to me.

I was thinking the same thing. Curling should be pretty easy to do in a video game.

I think if done right, an olympic game could be pretty cool. Couldn't they add hockey by taking the NHL2K engine, trim it down to the national teams and change the player names?

Add some good atmosphere with opening & medal ceremonies, the olympic theme etc. I think it would be a decent game.

I remember one of the most fun I had with an Olympic-themed game was the USA Basketball Game that came out before the '92 Olympics.

It was a Sega Genesis game and it ran using the same engine as EA's Bulls vs. Lakers game. The game included real players from most of the international squads that competed in that year's Olympics. Playing with the Dream Team was fun, but they had an All-World Team on there that could do some damage as well.

Curling was on a PSone game for Nagano in '98...not sure if you can really find it easily....I'd also buy this if it had curling, sounds stupid but I enjoy the sport. I'm actually gonna take a course over 5 nights at the Detroit Curling Club in March, the tactics/physics of the sport are pretty cool, tho I've been watching on Canadian TV since I was like 8

I have the Nagano game for N64. I rented the game, got addicted to Curling, and went out and bought it because of it. Back then they never showed Curling on TV, so I had no idea how to play it, but once I figured out the rules, I couldn't stop playing. Thinking about this has me wanting to hook my N64 back up.

This game is a straight disrespect to the 2ksports serious. And who in the world did 49games think would buy such boo boo....Not even having real people to compete against...

yah this is 2k's worse attempt at a game ever. I mean i was expecting a much more awesome game from a company that does friggin amazing baseball,basketball and hockey games and when they could football. But this torino 2006 was a disappointment. I got it on the pc and it's just not fun at all. Why they didn't add snowboarding or curling or hockey beats me. If they consider doing one for The vancouver 2010 Winter olympics they better make it amazing or hopefully one company makes a amazing one.

Watchin curling is kind of like watching golf. You have to give it time and then it just grows on you. It has a lot of strategy and you have to like any sport where the participants are drinking beers between turns
