News Post

We have identified and fixed the bug causing the game to crash when editing rosters. This bug also causes teams to disappear and team ratings to change.

The patch is being tested tonight, and assuming all goes well it will be submitted tomorrow for certification. The expected release is in 5-10 days.

Until the patch, we recommend you cease editing rosters. Rosters that have been corrupted by the bug will not work after the patch. If you have a roster in progress and have not encountered any freezes or missing teams, it will work after the patch. There is a possibility a roster can be corrupt and not have surfaced any problems yet. This is why we recommend that you stop or back up your work among multiple save files.

We are also fixing the bug where the depth chart gets reordered after editing a player with this patch.

These are the ONLY fixes in this patch. We are planning on a 2nd patch with many fixes, but we had to get this one out the door.

We appreciate everyone's patience on this matter.

Special thanks to CDJ, 21SEC, and Fairdale Kings for helping us track this down.

Even when I am on Offense I want a little more time to think about my call but I only get 25-30 seconds. At least give us 1 minute and 30 seconds like in real life. Not a game killer but could sure be implemented better.

You only get a 25 second play clock in real life, but I do agree the 12 seconds seems to go really fast, and online it's a little hard to pick the play you want on Defense.

I guess this will be my official plea to move the problems with the kicking game to the top of the muy importante list to fix.

I posted this in another thread. Check out the angle number 33 has on Ray Small from OSU on this punt return. He could at least knock him out of bounds. Instead he just escorts him into the end zone.

Maybe you should lay of the drinks and reread my post. When you call a timeout in real life you have ample time to discuss a play. In the game you don't get any extra time. IT is especially true on Defense when you may want to spend extra time on a play but you only get 12 seconds.
This comes straight from the NCAA rulebook.
Length of Timeouts
ARTICLE 7. a. A charged team timeout requested by any player or head
coach shall not exceed one minute, 30 seconds (Exception: Rule 3-3-4-
e-3).
b. For live televised games only, a charged team timeout shall be 30
seconds plus the 25-second play clock interval.
c. Any charged team timeout shall be 30 seconds in duration upon a visual
signal of the hands touching the shoulders, made by the head coach of the
team requesting the timeout. The signal must be made promptly after the
timeout is requested.
d. Other timeouts shall be not longer than the referee deems necessary to fulfill
the purpose for which they are declared, including a radio or TV timeout,
but any timeout may be extended by the referee for the benefit of an injured
player (Refer to Appendix A for the guidelines for game officials to use
during a serious on-field player injury).
e. If the team charged with a one-minute, 30-second team timeout wishes to
resume play before the expiration of one minute and its opponent indicates
readiness, the referee will declare the ball ready for play.
f. The length of a referee’s timeout depends on the circumstances of each
timeout.
g. The field captain must exercise his penalty option before he or a teammate
consults with his coach on a sideline during a timeout.
h. The intermission after a safety, try or successful field goal shall be not more
than one minute. It may be extended for radio or television.

Can you understand this?

Wow, that was quick. I'm beginning to like EA again, I hated the fact that EA never upgraded their PC games and now discontinued them but all is good now. Great work!!!

Good news overall. I may rent the game after the patch and FK's rosters. Looking forward to checking it out.

I with everyone else is very happy to hear this. I've been lucky and with DT's rosters haven't had any problems yet, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Man, that is awful. I had a play similar to that yesterday on a long INT return. I can live with it (this year) if they patch the other problems.

Dumb question. Am I SOL if my PS3 isn't hooked up to the Internet so far as getting this patch goes? I am able to download the system updates onto a flash drive and upload them onto my console, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to do that in order to get the NCAA 09 patch. Any help would be appreciated.

hook it up to the internet would be my guess. I don't think their is any other way to do it.

Anyone know when to expect the PS3 patch? After reading this, I'm itching to buy it.

Ok I have a question on the roster issues. Why can't someone at EA create the rosters with "real" names during the last few weeks of development? Now before you flame me I know they can't release the names in the game due to the NCAA rules. But why couldn't one of these EA studio guys then create a generic account and post them in his personal locker? That way we have rosters pretty much as soon as the game is released. That way it just looks like some dude got a hold of an early copy and posted them online to share. I am guessing EA has or can come up with a tool to do the roster editing a lot quicker than some poor smuck sitting at home typing away one player at a time. I am not a techie but I am guessing EA has (or can easily come up with) the capability to just dump an excel file and convert it to a game file or something. Heck that way these roster editors could still do their thing for weeks leading up to release and then just give the Excel file to an EA dude. At any rate my point is I think EA makes this whole roster thing harder than it needs to be. Nothing like websites crashing because people are checking to see if rosters are done every 15 minutes. And for poor PS3 owners like myself are left with our d*cks swinging in the wind waiting to start a dynasty or whatnot because we have no rosters. I know the EA guys are spending some time on the forums here. I hope they read this post and say "hey maybe that is not a bad idea". Heck probably on of the better programmers at the studio can write an Excel to game file convertor in one evening of free time. Or maybe some super geek on this board can do it. I am just saying I bet it can be done.

one of the roster guys got the game early and had them done for release.

I'm in the same situation and would like to know the answer to that as well.

As great as it is that they are fixing the problems, the main issue is the game should not have shipped with them. Whatever though, something is definately better than nothing.

Good to know the patch is on it's way.

You think EA is the only company that releases games with glitches we feel should have been caught up front.

Nice work fixing something that shouldn't have been broken in the first place. Let me bow down to the EA gods because they fixed something broken in their game. You guys in here kill me.

How does the game get through testing without roster editing, which is probably the first thing 50% of people do with the game, being tested? Seriously, you guys have gotten so sloppy with your testing in the last two years. People shouldn't be finding MAJOR bugs within a few hours of the game being out.

So how does a person with no internet access get the patch so that they can have an actual working game? Are they just screwed? I don't beleive you can copy over patch downloads on the PS3.

It's absurd this is even an issue.

Hey daniels what do you mean by this save... the rosters/updates on the flash? When you say updates do you mean patches? How do I go about doing this? I'm wondering cuz I'm on 360 and not have broadband internet
