Madden 09 News Post

Pasta Padre has posted some videos from the Madden NFL 09 demo.

"From the amount of time I’ve spent with the demo so far it is clearly from an older build than what was played at the Community Event. Apparently it is from an early April build and the one coming next week will be more recent. So not only are there visual differences (no camera flashes for example) but it doesn’t play as sharp as it did in late May. The Madden IQ doesn’t seem to be nearly as forgiving either, as I struggled just to pull in Pro ratings with the demo while at the event I had All-Pro on every one except pass defense. Still it does a decent enough job presenting the overall feel of the game outside of the absent commentary which takes a big part of the atmosphere away."

Man, the Madden IQ test doesn't mess around when it gets up near the AllPro level. Great videos. And of course, nice to see somebody play it who doesn't drop back 20 yds.

The game looks outstanding, but that DB flailing animation, not looking at the ball, followed by the "no you don't" hand shake is going to get really old, really fast. I'll take back the not looking at the ball, stick one hand up and knock the ball down with the back of the hand DB any day.

That Asante Samuel one handed INT was just ridiculous, and not in a good way.

I don't like the slowdown in the VT when you are on Pass defense.

Sorry but The DB play still looks like garbage...and unrealistic
What the hell do these players have eyes on the back of their head?
I just saw Asante Samuel make a play on a deep ball without turning around once...

I agree. If you take a look at any deep play, even the DB's on the OTHER side of the field react to the ball the INSTANT the ball is released. Sometimes it looks like he's playing the ball alot better the the WR who's getting the ball, even though he wasn't covering that particular WR.

Love the QB missed throws.

Agreed. For as good as the game looks when it's standing still, the animations and the head-scratching way the game plays really takes away from it. DL getting shoved to the ground seemingly with no consideration of momentum or weight. Offensive linemen immediately diving down to try to take down a defensive lineman - on a pass play lol. Tiburon seems to base their efforts around what they think looks cool. Don't know of any other excuse; you just don't see things like this in a real game

I dont know how anyone could say this game looks amazing.

The DB's don't turn around and it seems like the presentation is the same with a worse play calling screen than Madden 06 (features less plays visible at one time), doesn't have a button assigned to a play (like NCAA 09), cut scenes look poorly done with no life in the players faces at all, DB's can see behind them all the way across field, no QB pocket, Eli moves way too fast.

This game needs serious help
Now remember this build is from April.

Man, in the rush defense drill, that computer RB got some moves!

lol...you do realize that this is a build earlier than was even played at the community day (which was also improved based on feedback, as I recall)? We were forewarned that the demo is extremely stripped down presentation wise. As for the other complaints, I really couldn't tell one way or another without playing the game (except for the visual lack of a pocket, as you mentioned). I don't see how people can say it looks amazing either, but I also don't understand the constant stream of negativety about an early build of a game that has gotten fairly positive reviews by most who have actually played it. Time will tell, I suppose.

I agree
I will not take a Madden game seriously until I see a DB tracking the football like in real life...Are these players super saiyans or something? Tell me what DB in real life makes a amazing defensive play on the ball without turning to peek at the ball not even once?

I also notice that the DB's have mr. fantastic arms when they're running...
It's also inexplicable that we're in 09 and there's absolutely NO QB pocket....!!!
How long do we have to wait to see one? Madden 2045>>>?
Eli does move too fast . He's Michael Vick now?? *shakes head*

Exactly. Whats up with the in complete pass where the ball seems to pass over the heads of both the DB and receiver, then the DB all of a sudden does a 360 and bats the ball down with two hands. Looks cool doesn't it? Uh...no. It's a useless animation that was probably added to add "excitement" to the game. I've seen that one a couple of times, and thats a couple times too many.

Did you see that one handed interception by Asante Samuel? I cringed when I saw that.... I also cringed when I saw that he was able to land standing up and not lose one bit of energy running to the other endzone...
The way he was running was weird too ...like if he had a stick up his fanny...lol

# 14 stingya @ 07/25/08 04:41 PM
It looks exactly the same...exactly the same!! but its a very early build... right?I sincerely hope a lots been added since.

# 15 italianguy @ 07/25/08 05:10 PM
Early build which means I'm not basing anything off of it.

# 16 stoncold32 @ 07/25/08 05:22 PM
that play at 3:29 is the most annoying thing in NCAA and I see its made its way here too

# 17 modelboy @ 07/25/08 06:03 PM
Game looks like it was built off of madden 07 xbox version.. not a bad thing though.. regarding the passes.. i hope some of the stronger armed QB's throws dont float like Eli's

# 18 Lumalu @ 07/25/08 07:07 PM
looks great to me

# 19 BrianFifaFan @ 07/25/08 07:16 PM
I'm excited for the game. We know a lot has been changed in the game since this build. I probably won't even play the demo, as to not jade myself. At least it moves at a more realistic pace than NCAA. Man, I'd love for the demo to have just normal gameplay. That way the AI wouldn't be skewed for the 2-minute drill. But I'll have my CE in a few weeks, so I'm good.

# 20 Netherscourge @ 07/25/08 07:28 PM
Man - is it just me or does the game look like it's in slow-motion?

Can't they speed up the flow of the game more? It looks slow, and I don't mean the framerate either.
