2K Sports has posted an NBA 2K9 Q&A session.

Quote:
"How has the association mode been upgraded? With no College Hoops 2K9 this year, have their been any major changes to the association mode that would enhance the draft portion the association mode? We’ve spent a lot of time this year with The Association, hence its moniker, The Association 2.0."

"Our philosophy with the experience this year was to ‘bring it to life’ while adding Authenticity on the level of magnitudes. Franchise modes have been guilty for years of delivering a very dry experience where information was delivered to the user via buried menus. NBA.com, which we believe will change the way content is presented to the user in all franchise modes, is at the heart of the mode delivering every fateful twist as it happens. Detailed information on The Association 2.0 and the rest of its features will be coming your way sometime next week. Sit tight, it will be worth the wait."

I'm not optimistic, but I'm hoping they add the stats for PER in the association mode. I'm pretty sure any semi-hardcore basketball fans know what PER is and how relevant it is to compare players effectiveness than just the common (pts., rebs, asts, etc.) raw stats. EFF, TS%, AST-TO Ratio, REBr, etc. are also good, but I can easily calculate those on my own. The PER is kind of time consuming and rather difficult to calculate. That's why I'm hoping 2K9 will have it.

I would think that if it is found on NBA.com then there should be no problem. NBA2K9 is suppose to take its stats and other updated information directly from that website.

With no College Hoops, 2K had better deliver something great in the NFL 2K5 sense.

Unfortunately, I don't believe NBA.com calculates PER. They use EFF, which I don't like nearly as much as PER. Even so, I don't think NBA.com would be any help since I'm talking about stats for the Association Mode. PER is calculated using teams adjusted pace, so they would have to use stats DURING the games played from within the Association Mode. They cannot use real live stats from NBA.com.

I love efficiency. I pray that it is on 2K9.

No doubt. I'm hoping that the "desires" feature is really well explained next week. Looking forward to hearing much more about that.

Every year they drive me nuts with the lack of info until mid-September. It's annoying marketing, but it works to get people talking and speculating about the game. Blah!

The evasion of the "playoff crowd t-shirts" question, worries me. I don't think we'll be seeing that all-white Miami home crowd, or all-red Toronto home crowd and others. It's a bummer, cause those things definitely bring a heavy playoff vibe. Almost feels like a college game in terms of intensity.

maybe they will have the whole crowd with foam fingers or waving towels , hopefully that won't affect the framerate though

for the playoffs that is

I don't mind EFF, though I do think it is too simplistic. EFF is easy to calculate. PER is much more difficult, and it's the reason why if 2K does it, it would be a big time saver for me.

10.) Will there be accumulated stats (like NFL 2K5) where your stats follow you and the presentation display current game stats, career stats, playoff stats...etc?

A.) Statistical overlays have returned to NBA 2K9 after a brief hiatus. These overlays will display at opportune times (free throws, dead balls, etc.) and will provide information such as game points, career average, etc.
Nice!
